I absolutely do find it hilarious that under Welsh law Gwenhwyfar has numerous reasons she could divorce Arthur, but instead, she just has numerous affairs. A problematic queen.

(It's easier to list who she doesn't have an affair with but, off the top of my head, Cai, Gwalchmai, surprisingly NOT Bedwyr although I know authors use him as a stand-in for when Lancelot doesn't fit in with their work, Melwas (as previously discussed, who was almost certainly a fae lord in the earliest tradition), Edern ap Nudd (Gwyn ap Nudd's brother), and Medrawd, when he isn't married to her sister, I assume.) And Enid if you are like me and believe that their sleepover in Geraint ac Enid was sapphic. She really was living her best life.

Tbf Arthur has like three (maybe four?) mistresses according to Welsh tradition so y'know, it wasn't like he was slacking either.

Not that I condone cheating. I just find it very v very funny that there was a legitimate way out and she utterly refused to take it. I recommend this paper if u wanna learn more about Welsh divorces:

Made my bath too hot so I'm now thinking that Melwas / Melegaunt can be seen as a Tylwyth Teg (Welsh fey basically) and that the colour green is seen as being a colour that telegraphs otherworldliness which can also be seen in 'Gawain and the Green Knight.'

Also, Melwas kidnapping Gwenhwyfar / Guinevere during May could be seen as a parallel to Gwyn ap Nudd and Gwythyr's May Day fight for Creiddylad. As well as this Melwas taking Gwenhwyfar to the woods is both a big signifier that he's otherworldly and also woodlands are often seen as the ideal place for lovers to meet. Also, pretty sure in the Mabinogion Pwyll's run-in with Arawn, Lord of the Dead, takes place in a woodland furthering the whole Otherwordly aspect.

Hello, bringing u some prime Arthur, Bedwyr, Cai, and Cafall content today. What I'm taking away from this is that Arthur has a thousand siblings, Bedwyr was Arthur's BUTLER (Geoffrey of Monmouth we have to talk. I know ur dead, but still.) And Cai is Trans. And might not even be Cynyr's son. And is Tall. Very Tall. Also has Beef with Melwas. (Melegaunt. Which tbf, I would too.)

Also, Cafall is HUGE. HUGE DOGGO. HUGE DOGGO WHO BEDWYR GETS DIBS TO HOLD.

(Also, the fact that Arthur, Bedwyr, and Cai all watched as a king carried off the daughter of the king after the Brecon Beacons were named! They all just fuckin watched on a hill, chilling. Arthur even wanted her for himself. Gwladys, I'm so sorry. I would've whacked them across the head for that. Thrown my shoes. Idk.) And, if that's not enough, More Bedikay propaganda!!!!
