Is it possible that Meluan Lackless is Kvothe's aunt? I know it's mentioned in Name of the Wind that his mother used to be nobility or something before Arliden met her, and Meluan's sister left the family to become one of the Ruh, but I can't help but feel like there was some reason why it couldn't be possible for Meluan to be his aunt. I can't remember what it was but I'm almost sure there was something.

Yep absolutely! That’s a pretty well known theory :) There’s a hint in a song by Arliden: 

“Dark Laurian, Arliden's wifeHas a face like a blade of a knifeHas a voice like a prickledown burrBut can tally a sum like a moneylender.My sweet Tally cannot cook.But she keeps a tidy ledger-bookFor all her faults I do confessIt's worth my lifeTo make my wifeNot tally a lot less”The bold lines have been theorized to be a play on Netalia Lackless, or Laurian’s real name. Kvothe also found Meluan familiar somehow which seems to be another hint!

Meluan is Kvothe's Aunt

I swore I had done a post on this and was trying to link to it, but I can't find one, so here we go!

Has it been confirmed Meluan is his aunt? I know I also got that impression very strongly, but I also saw a theory that she’s Denna’s aunt. So I’m just wondering about that.

Meluan is Kvothe's aunt.

Kvothe's mother was once noble...

I could only assume she meant Three Crossings, where we went to visit relatives when I was very young. Once.” - The Name of the Wind

Meluan's sister ran away with a Ruh troupe... 

“...young Netalia Lackless had run away with a troupe of traveling performers. Her parents had disowned her, of course, leaving Meluan the only heir to the Lackless lands.” - The Wise Man's Fear

Kvothe recognizes her, but can't place where he knows her from - he only visited his family when he was very young. Once. 

His father, Arliden, made a song about how he married Netalia Lackless that really pissed off his wife as she was trying to hide:

If Meluan isn't Kvothe's aunt, I'll eat red herring. (And I'm vegetarian.)

If you havent read kkc skip this post. So I was rereading (read: rerererereading) thr KKC and i stumbled upon this gem of an insult: Kvothe-[Meluan] is just mad because a troupers tongue got her to bed faster than her sister. Do you see. If you dont, go back and reread the books just to understand that one insult because it is gold.
