Simulacra Systems User Group: Tourist

The customers who pay to live their wildest dreams: Tourists are the most numerous, and arguably the most critical user group for Simulacra Systems. Not all Tourists are created equal, however, as the more they pay, the more control they can exert in their simulations. Low-end users will be relegated to popular communal simulations with thousands of other Tourists, while VIP users can expect to have dozens of private simulations running for them all at once. 

No matter how much a Tourist pays, though, they can always expect world class service from the Operators and Researchers at Simulacra Systems.

Tourists will pay for their time in simulations on a hour-by-hour basis, often signing up for plans and packages that include a pre-selected list of experiences. Some will want to walk off the beaten path, however, and enter simulations in “free-roam” mode that allow them to haphazardly experience what the simulation has to offer instead of following an itinerary. Because there’s often a large discrepancy in how long Tourists stay in their simulations, their simulation experiences tend to be short-lived and based in transiency.

Despite being the paying consumers, there are rules that Tourists must follow in their simulation. Not all simulation rules are the same, but many stipulate that one should treat other users with respect, and to not disrupt the natural course of a simulation. However, the one universal rule that Tourists must follow (lest they be banned from Simulacra Systems simulations), is leave the simulation when their time has expired.

Recently, however, there’s been an uptick in “Rogue Tourists” running a muck in the simulations. Rogue Tourists are those who have hacked into the simulation and disabled the tracking and identification protocols in order to cheat their time and stay in the simulation indefinitely. The dark web advertises plenty of Trojans and access points for malicious Tourists to use in order to “go rogue”. While it might seem like a deal to never spend a dime for a simulation, Rogue Tourists are constantly on the run from Operators and Researchers tasked with hunting them down. There’s real world risk should one get caught, as the Simulated Reality Criminal Code punishes simulation hackers with prison time. No matter to the adrenaline junkies enjoying themselves on a virtual beach, however, they’re living their best life.
