Daphne laughed as she pulled her coat tighter around her. Boston in winter. It really was freezing out but the snow was beautiful. Which was why she’d asked him to go for a walk with her. Though clearly she needed to invest in a coat that was a larger size because she’d skipped zipping it since it was uncomfortable. “I might actually like the city more when it snows.” Reaching out she took his hand and pulled him after her. The Greenway really was beautiful and there weren’t a lot of people out at the moment. “It’ll be so pretty here in the spring.” Looking up at the sky she smiled before turning to face Ryan. There was a pause before she quickly kissed him. “Lets get ice cream.”

Having sex had been spur of the moment and honestly Daphne hadn’t thought about the consequences. She hadn’t had sex in months so of course she wasn’t on birth control because there hadn’t been a point. Who was going to get her pregnant? But now she realized why that mindset had been so stupid. The blonde had known something was wrong when the smell of browning butter had turned her stomach. That was something she liked, hell it was why she loved using brown butter in things so clearly something was wrong. Now she knew what it was. Glaring down at the pregnancy test she took a slow breath through her nose. This was bad. Not because it was with Ryan, he might have been the best person for this to happen with, but because her having a baby would hold him back. 

She wasn’t going to leave their home town. It was where her bakery was and she was happy there. He wanted to be on an NBA team and there was no saying it would be a local one. Taking a deep breath she looked at her phone. Texting her best friend that she was pregnant was wrong when it was his baby right? That would be the wrong move. But god did it seem like such a good idea at the moment. A text meant she didn’t have to look at him when she said it. Sure it was a cowards way out and she felt guilty the moment she sent the message but at the moment shew anted to be a coward. So she sent him the simple text: I’m pregnant. Before walking to her bed and curling up in a ball.

Daphne was never one to stay over with someone and normally she used the bakery as an excuse because she had to be there so early. It was just the easy thing to do and she could play it off as if she didn’t want to wake the other person up in the morning. So of course there was that hesitation as she looked at him ready to use her normal excuse for why she had to go home. It kept things simple and there were no strings attached but staying the night changed that. Taking a breath she finished putting her shirt on before reaching up to pull her hair from under it. “I mean... I have to be at the bakery at 5:30 tomorrow morning. I wouldn’t want to wake you up because I have to leave that early.”

Honestly it was a little stressful being a way from the bakery for a few weeks leading up to the holiday but it was Penelope’s first Christmas and Daphne wanted to spend as much time as possible with Ryan. Ruby and Cassie could handle the place they just weren’t doing any huge special orders. Which left her with the ability to be cuddled up on the couch watching the snow fall over the city. “I’ve said it before but this is my favorite time to be in the city.” It was so quiet when it snowed and she loved how it looked. Though it was more enjoyable to be laying back against Ryan with his arms wrapped around her. “She’s going to wake up and see the whole place covered in snow. Though it wont be as pretty once everyone starts walking and driving over everything.”

There was nothing worse than losing power when it was cold outside. Had the snow been beautiful? Of course it was. But the moment the power flickered before going out she stopped finding it as pretty. It left her sitting on the couch in sweatpants and one of Dayton’s hoodies with a blanket on her lap while her husband sat on the other side of the couch scrolling through his phone. “We should get one of those fireplaces things. You can get ones that you set up and they use that jelly stuff. You light it and you get a fire for a little bit and it warms you up. My dad got one of the ones they instal with a propane tank outside. It would keep the place warm.” She offered with a smile as she looked over at him. “Or you could come under the blanket. You’d be warmer.” Inching a little closer she lifted the edge of the blanket. “I’m small but I can get pretty warm.”

She hated having to leave and now that Penelope was starting to get older it just made leaving harder. Their daughter was well aware of the fact that they were leaving and that her dad wasn’t going to be there with her. A sigh left her as Ryan wrapped his arms around her and she leaned into it and wrapped her arms back around him. “You’re going to make us miss our flight.” The blonde pointed out as she wrapped her arms tighter around him. Despite what she said she wasn’t pulling away from him just yet and she could tell by Pen’s giggles that she was enjoying seeing her parents.

Daphne enjoyed coming to the games though one thing she didn’t enjoy was being in a box instead of court side like she had been before. Really she was thankful that the team owner had let her and Penelope sit up there so the baby wouldn’t be around so much noise but she liked getting to see Ryan up close. That and she loved when he smiled over at her. But it was safer for their daughter until she could get those noise canceling headphones so she would watch the games from the box. It just meant it took longer for her to get to the locker room after the game. So when she walked down the hall towards it she paused when she saw the woman interviewing Ryan. Though it was clear that while he wasn’t flirting the woman clearly was. Shifting her hold on Penelope she smiled at the two. “I hope I’m not interrupting.” While her smile might have made her words seem friendly it was clear that she wasn’t a fan of the other woman.

She wasn’t his girlfriend. Daphne was his friend who he was having a baby with and sometimes that wasn’t an easy pill to swallow. Maybe getting pregnant had made her realize that she’d always had a thing for him but never really acted on it but things didn’t seem to work the way they wanted them to. "It’s fine.” She waved him off trying her best to keep her emotions in check but one thing she was terrible at was keeping calm. The baby seemed to make that more difficult and now she was just counting down until she went into labor. Hell she could barely stand at the table in the bakery because of how big she was. “We talked about it. The baby and I are going to be here but we’ll come see you a lot and you can come here but there’s nothing saying you can’t see other people.” Had she been the one that said it? Daphne thought she might have been but Ryan had agreed the last time she was in Boston and now that she was so far along it was safer for her to stay close to home incase she went into labor. So he was the one that had to visit her. “Look I need to keep an eye on this frosting or it’s going to separate.”

Daphne has been saying she loves Ryan since they were in high school because he’s been her best friend for a very long time. So she’s always loved him on some level. But in a romantic way it would probably be Ryan that says it first. She’s so careful about things in that way because she doesn’t want him to feel trapped because they’re having a baby together. So she would feel the same way when it comes to romantically saying she loves him. She does and knows that no one else will ever be like him but she’ll hold off on saying it until he does.
