Okay so this whole abortion thing.
I know. I'm sorry. But abortion-related-stuff has been popping up in my life a lot recently. Crazy Jen went and got pregnant from a one-night-stand with a man twice her age and decided she didn't want to not get drunk for 9 months so she had an abortion. (No seriously, this happened.)
Now, I don't agree with what Crazy Jen did. I really don't agree with it. If I were in her shoes (and I pray I never am!), I would have gone through with the pregnancy and given the baby up for adoption. But I'm also not a raging alcoholic and I like to think I've got my head on straight and I've also never had a one-night-stand, let alone with a man twice my age. Great. Good. Now that we've got that under control, let's have a quick chat.
I used to be of the opinion that if you don't have a vagina/uterus/the ability to become pregnant, you should probably keep your mouth shut, and your penis out of the conference room. However, that is estranging about 49% of the country, and I feel like we as women should recognize that there is value in hearing everyone's voice. I would agree that men do not have the same perspective as women, due to their unimpregnable nature, but sometimes a different perspective is a good thing.
No, I do not think that men should be able to overrule women when it comes to abortion laws.
No, I do not think that men should be the only people involved in the discussion of abortion laws.
YES I DO THINK THAT ABORTION AFFECTS MEN.
I don't know if you knew this women, but every child has both a biological mother and a biological father. Crazy, I know. Also crazy is the fact that fathers are also capable of loving their children, even before said children are born. Based on these facts, I believe that it could also be heartbreaking for a future father to have his future child killed.
No, I do not think that men should be able to dictate abortion laws, but I do think that they should have a say.
So PLEASE can we stop with the "Until you grow a vagina you STFU about abortion." Because really, that argument is petulant and solves nothing.
