1995.
The band had recently finished a show; now they were in a pub relaxing after a long concert in the company of close friends. You had known the band since their beginnings, you were one of Liam and Noel’s high school best friends, and now you were accompanying them to their most important shows like a roadie would.
"I like this place," you said loudly, smiling at Noel, who was standing beside you at the bar.
He chuckled and looked at the shelves full of old and dusty bottles of alcohol. "Want a drink?" he said, taking out his wallet.
"What a gentleman, Noel!" You smirked, looking into his eyes with an innocent and beautiful expression. Noel loved that.
The guy at the bar approached after Noel made a sign with his hand. "Two beers, please." The boy just tilted his head and went to get them.
"Mmmh... who said I wanted a beer...?" You said, grimacing and looking directly at him.
He got nervous. "O–Oh, I didn't mean to—"
Suddenly, you let out a loud laugh. Some people turned their heads back to see who was laughing so loud, but you didn't care.
"Oh, I'm kidding, Noel! Unwind a little!" Your energy infected Noel; whenever you laughed, he could hear your beautiful laugh all day long.
After the bartender gave them their beers, they went back to the table where all his friends were. Liam was moving his hands from side to side, so probably he was regaling another weird anecdote to his friends, because they were laughing really loud.
You nudged Noel's arm as you pointed out some free seats beside Liam. Noel sighed a little, frightened Liam would screw his opportunity to lift you up.
They sat next to them and placed their bottles on the table. "I swear, man, 'bout to kill that fuckin' wanker," Liam kept telling his story to their friends. Sarah, one of your best friends, decided to stop him. "Liam, are you seriously gonna tell an—"
But you interrupted her as you arrived with Noel at your seats.
"Another anecdote about how you can't bare getting insults, Liam?" You said, making fun of how dramatic he usually is. Sarah laughed and nodded as Noel just started to dissociate like usual. Everyone around the table laughed.
"Sure, because you are amazing at keeping your temper," he said, taking a big sip of his lager and slamming the glass down with a very sharp sound. Both looked at each other with a smirk and complicit eyes, complicit of something that no one else in the group understood.
Noel came out of the trance and turned his gaze to Liam, who pointed his eyes at you. Noel turned his eyes to you and cleared his throat as Liam started another conversation with Sarah and some lads he met there.
"So..." He got closer to you, and you just smiled. "I was at the store this morning and—"
Noel was interrupted by his own brother Liam, who ironically was trying to help him get you.
"Hey, sweetheart! What was the name of that stupid place we went last summer?" Liam said, turning his head to meet you both.
You chuckled at Liam's bad memory. "Just say water park, idiot!" You shouted. Liam rolled his eyes and kept telling his story.
"I'm so sorry your brother is a bummer... I seriously can't deal with him anymore. Whatever, what were you saying?" You smiled at Noel; he was so mad at Liam that he completely forgot what he was saying.
"Oh... yeah, uhh—"
"This morning you...?" You said, trying to make him remember.
"Oh! This morning I went to the—" Suddenly, Sarah appeared behind you.
"Hey, sorry to interrupt, but it's really late and we should go home now, because I swear that if I hear another of Liam's absurd anecdotes, I'm going to go nuts..." You stood up and grabbed your purse. "Oh! Yes, shit, it's really late... we should go, Noel. Can you call Liam?" You said to him in a soft voice.
"Ah... sure," he stood up and grabbed Liam from his jacket. "Oi! What happened?!" Liam squirmed in his jacket as Noel let him go when he finally got up. "Almost four in the morning, mate, time to go."
Liam grumbled a few seconds, but finally relented to leave.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
The four friends were in the parking lot of the pub. "We should go to another pub... or a karaoke or some bullshit like that," Liam said, staggering as Sarah grabbed him. "Liam, you are... hammered."
"We should all head home and rest... the gig really made me tired," Noel said, yawning and looking at you.
"Yeah... Sarah, can you take me home? Please, don't have anyone!" You said, almost begging her on your knees.
"Let me think..." Sarah said, making fun of you. "I mean, who's going to drive Liam home, Noel?"
Sarah cast a glance at Noel. He was about to agree, but... he couldn't.
"Do you want me to take you home?" He looked at you.
"Oh, my god, would you?!" You said with puppy eyes and getting excited. "I mean, if Sarah doesn't mind dropping Liam by his house..."
Sarah rolled her eyes. "No problem."
Liam babbled some things before Sarah opened the car and threw him like a doll to the back seats. "Good night, guys! Wish me luck with this idiot..." You and Noel laughed and waved.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
The smell of new car flooded your nostrils. The cold and white lights of the street lights were dim; Noel's face was obscured because of the shadow of the night, but you could still talk to him.
"Did you have a good night?"
"Yeah..." you said distantly. Noel looked confused. "Blue?" he said, keeping his eyes on the road, the night birds singing in the distance.
"No... maybe?... I don't know," you were looking at the window. "It's just... my job... everything is so overwhelming, I don't even like it, but I don't know what I'd do with my life if I quit." You said, resting your head at the side and closing your eyes to rest from the lights.
"I feel like I wasted all my life in this job... but I can't leave now, but it's draining me," you sighed.
"Well... that's pretty bad... but your job is very similar to the things I used to do as a roadie, so... whenever you want to change jobs, you know where to search," he said, cheering you up.
You chuckled and smirked at him. "I mean... I guess..." You nudge Noel's arm as you pointed out some free seats beside Liam. Noel sighed a little, frightened Liam would screw his opportunity to lift you up.
The car stopped in front of your house. You opened the door, the wind hit your face sharply, you got off and leaned down to the open window as you closed the door. "Guess this is our goodbye for tonight," you said softly.
Noel nodded. He grabbed the package from his pocket. "So, umm... remember I told ya in the pub that I was going to tell you something?"
"Oh yeah, what was it?"
"Well... remember in high school, when we had to make a project for chemistry and—"
"And Daniel threw our experiment to the trash? Yeah, Noel, he hates me and tried to get on my nerves," you said, interrupting his speech. You gave him a tender smile and waved him.
"Yeah..." he said, disappointed that you remembered that. While you waved at him, you walked away from the car and turned your body towards the door of your house.
Noel suddenly approached the window and yelled at you: "Goodnight, Freaky (name)..."
Suddenly, you stopped your walk. You turned around and made a short grimace with your face, while looking at him with a surprise of anger and annoyance. "Ew, don't call me that."
"I know. I was kidding, I—"
You approached the car and bent down to look at Noel through the window. "I'm sorry, I—"
"Do you like me?" You said, looking at him with a little disappointment and coldness.
He was speechless; a bucket of shame and embarrassment fell on him, the adrenaline ran down his belly and twisted.
"I— what?" He let out a nervous laugh, still smiling.
You sighed. Why do men always misunderstand friendship?
"Cause if you do now, it's the time to spit it out."
"..."
"I think we're good friends."
The awkward silence invaded the place; it was so dense that you could cut it with scissors. The sound of the trees rattling the windows of the house with the wind was the only sound there.
"Okay. Good night." You got up indifferently before jogging off to the door. You closed it while Noel cursed under his breath. "Fuckin' hell... Why?"
With frustration and shame, he covered his face. He looked for the car keys, cursing and surrendering. He relaxed in the seat; tomorrow will be very awkward when they see each other.
Upset, he grabbed the "one wish willow" from his pocket. He took a look as he started to whirl the package and appreciated it with his hands—a triangular packaging of red and cream colors, as if it were from another period.
"The one wish willow, amaze your friends... you only get one wish," he read the title of the product with sarcasm.
He opened it carelessly. The jingle of the product sounded like an old toy. He took out the willow and held it with both hands. He sighed.
"I wish (full name) loved more than anyone in the fucking world."
The sharp sound of the branch breaking stopped any other sound approaching. The silence flooded the car, and the noise of the crickets stopped. Noel threw the branch to the floor and started the car.
The car started and Noel turned his head to see the house. Without knowing that she would be there, standing on the steps, staring at him. She was facing him against the light, so he couldn't see her face, just a silhouette of shadows.
"Hey... are you—"
Suddenly, she started to walk to the car. Noel cursed under his breath and pulled the window down.
"Weren't you going to give me something?"
"What?"
"Yeah... in... in the pub you said that—"
"Oh no, no, I think I left it at my place... sorry."
"Don't worry!" She chuckled and made eye contact with Noel. "So, umm... yeah. Why don't you go inside and maybe we could have some drinks or watch a movie?"
Noel was paralyzed; he just stuttered something and then answered her.
"Are you drunk?" She just widened her eyes.
"No! No, no!" she laughed. "Gosh, no! Do I look drunk?" She laughed again, same laugh Noel fell in love with. "You are so mean! My face, it's just like this, y'know?" She joked with him, nodding, she just dissociated looking at his face.
"Hey... are you—" Suddenly she let out a really loud gasp. Her eyes widened again, but she looked scared now.
"Noel...?! Where?!... What the fuck?!" She was terrified, she looked to their surroundings, her eyes wide open as if she had seen a ghost, suddenly she started laughing, laughing out loud.
"(Name) shit... what the fuck?" Noel said as he slowly smiled because of her laugh.
"I'm hammered... that's it," she said and opened the door of the car. Noel flinched.
"Can I go to your place? I really need company of a good friend of mine..."
"Sure."
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
She was taking a bath. At Noel's house, his house. This was surreal.
He was very nervous, he already arranged the bed seven times, he heard the water fall every second and his heart raced. She came out of the bathroom drenched, her hair stuck to her body; she was wearing only her black laced bra and jeans shorts.
"God..." Embarrassed, he turned around. "S–shit sorry," she approached him and hugged him from behind, he winced at the coldness of your body. His jaw slacked, was he daydreaming?
"I might have a fever... sorry," she apologized. "Don't worry..." Noel said softly, she clamped his arm and made him follow her to the bed.
Both were laying on the large bed. She started to kiss his neck. He widened his eyes. "W–what..." she straddled him and started to make a trail of kisses from his neck to the corner of his lips.
"I wanted this since high school."
“Really…?”
“Do you want me to prove it…?”
He called your name, you didn't respond. She did, she started to kiss Noel's lips and he grabbed your hips, her hand caressing Noel's cheek.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
The bell on the back door of the studio rang, cutting right through the buzz of the amplifiers and the sounds of improvising riffs.
Noel walked in first, his shoulders unusually stiff, trying his absolute best not to mess up whatever happened last night. But what completely threw everyone off was who was glued to his side. She was holding onto his arm with an almost mechanical tightness, her fingers dug deep into his coat like she was terrified someone would take him away, casting an odd smile completely far from the reality of the studio.
Liam, sitting on the edge of a ragged couch with his tambourine, looked up expecting to his usual morning routine of insulting and argue with him for four hours straight. Instead, he completely choked on his words.
"I's gonna go wash my hands for a second, love" she murmured with a sickeningly sweet voice, far too intimate for the place, making every single person in the room think they were interrupting something. Before letting go, you leaned in and pressed a lingering, wet kiss right against the side of his neck, breathing in deep against his skin before turning and heading toward the bathroom with slow, calculated steps.
Absolute silence filled the room for a couple of seconds. Noel swallowed hard, forcing his eyes down toward the mixing board.
Liam jumped to his feet, eyes wide with disbelief, and yanked him by the shoulder into a corner of the hallway, safely away from Bonehead and the sound engineer.
"Now what the fuck was that?!" Liam spat out. "Since when are you two holding hands and kissin', Did you actually fuck her or what?"
"What do you give a shit, you absolute knob? Leave it."
"What do I give a shit?! You just walked through that fucking door like a pair of lovebirds on their honeymoon!" Liam scoffed. "She barely knew your name."
"Hey, you were the one that told me to tell her my feeling, now don't talk rubbish, Liam. People change," Noel said like it had just been revealed to him by god.
From down the hallway, she was walking back. The second she saw them whispering, her expression shifted instantly. She had a disturbing look, she stood on the edge of the door looking at them coldly; Liam looked at her first, she didn't change her face, but as soon as Noel turned his head, smiled again like an angel.
Next weeks were a torture for everyone. The band couldn't have a single session without her being there; Sarah and Liam couldn't talk to Noel when the friend group went out because you would be glued to him.
Noel was living his own love story, cooking together, playing guitar as she sang, every single second of his life was perfect.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
Noel woke up at the middle of the night, she wasn’t there. He called your name.
"Babe...? Are you—" He shut himself and cringed at the sight of your silhouette in the shadows. "Fuck... babe, you scared me, what are you doing there?"
"... I feel like... you don't love me as much as I do... hon'..." she whispered, she was only in her underwear. Noel shaked his head to check if it was a dream.
"W—what... of course I luv you babe," he said. "Now come back to bed an—" She ran directly to the bed and threw a glass to the ground, making Noel's heart jump with fright. "Shit!... the fuck was that for?!" She just laughed and hugged him as she lay on the bed.
She never spoke again that night, but she was grasping onto Noel with all her strength. Noel was fighting to breathe.
The next morning he woke up and she was already making breakfast for him. He walked towards the kitchen, the smell of food filling his nostrils. "Good morning..." he said with fright.
"Hi babe! Made breakfast," she said, pointing at the table. Noel sat down and took a look at the food. It looked so perfect that it was surreal.
"Thanks..." he said slowly as he grabbed a fork. She chuckled and served her plate in front of him. "This is like a date, isn't it?" She said, smiling. "We should totally go out tonight! Actually... Sarah told me that Liam was going to do a small party with some friends and... we should totally go!"
Noel looked at her disconcerted. "I mean... sure... but can we talk about last night?" She looked at him quickly as she let the fork fall, causing the sharp sound to silence the environment.
"Last night... you know, the... 'standing in the shadows and looking you sleep', it was a little weird, innit?" He said, and she covered her mouth, gasping. "Oh my god! Was it?"
He nodded. "Oh god... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to! Shit... I just wanted to make sure you were safe."
"Well, I am safe... so it's okay to just sleep, y'know?" She nodded hearing Noel, still giving him that very odd smile.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
The flat was filled with cigarette smoke and some rock music coming from the speakers. Everyone was half-drunk, shouting over each other, laughing, and arguing about random topics. Sarah ran to greet both, excited of seeing her because it has been a while since the last time.
Noel sat on the old sofa, looking exhausted, trying to drink a whiskey as she sat right on his lap, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. Liam was a few feet away, mid-story with a pint in his hand, when he caught sight of the two of them. He grimaced, almost like he was annoyed, shaking his head, and decided to bother them a bit.
"Look at the little lovebirds over here!" Liam shouted above the noise, raising his pint toward Noel. "Fucking hell, rkid, look at you, you are a fanny! You look like a hostage, the only thing missing is the chain collar."
A few of the mates chuckled, even Sarah laughed. Noel forced a poorly miserable smile.
"Go find someone else to bother, dickhead," Noel scoffed.
Instead of laughing and follow the joke or getting defensive like anyone normal would, she slowly turned her head away from Noel. Her eyes locked directly onto Liam, wide, disturbing.
The dead silence in her gaze made the laughter in the room instantly die. She began to laugh, in an extreme, off-putting, exaggerated and false way; everyone looked at her uncomfortable.
The sound of the fireplace was the only sound anyone could hear. Liam’s smirk vanished, replaced by a frown as he stared at you. Suddenly she stood up from Noel’s lap and whispered loudly. "No one in earth... would ever comprehend how much I love him..."
"And every single person in this room will die, without feeling the strength of connection I feel with my NOEL!" she yelled with a very harsh voice. No one dare to speak.
"(Name)... are you okay?" Sarah said, looking at the floor; not even your closest friend would dare to look at your eyes.
"I'm... joking guys! I—" She noticed that didn't changed anything to fix the mood and decided to shut her mouth. "Do you guys want to play pool...?" One of Liam's mates said and he nodded.
"Yeah... I'll prepare everything," Liam said as he stood up and people started to chat again.
She started to caress Noel’s cheek. He just stared at the floor, angry and upset about what had just happened. Suddenly you snapped out the trance, you opened your eyes wide and screamed with a terrified look.
Everyone including Liam turned around. "IT’S NOT ME!"
You fell to the ground while you crawled away from Noel, asking for help to the people around you; they just step back. You let out a guttural scream in a high pitch tone as you grabbed a glass beer bottle and slam it to the edge of the table until it broke. Repeating over and over again. "SHE’S NOT ME"
Tears fell down your eyes, as you stood up and looked at Sarah. "IT’S NOT—"
You didn't finished the sentence, instead, you hit your face with the broken bottle. Blood splattered your hands and the table. Everyone on the place panicked, some people screamed while Liam and Sarah ran towards to take the bottle off your hands.
As your friends approach you, the bottle fell on the ground, and the blood dripping from your forehead was now making a puddle between your legs on the floor. But you didn't had time to do anything; she was back again.
"Oh... I'm so sorry guys, I'm making a mess..." She said, chuckling.
Noel didn't move a freaking centimeter, didn't even try to stop you; he was still staring at the floor.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
At the hospital, Liam entered with you; Noel and Sarah were outside waiting. "What have you done..." Sarah said to Noel.
"What...?"
"That's not her, Noel. Since she's been with you she has been acting like an idiot."
"No, she's not."
"Yes, Noel. I don't even know how you guys ended up together, she—"
"She what?"
"Noel, she has been sleeping with Liam since months before you confessed your feeling to her!"
Noel freezed. The cigarette in his mouth almost falling.
"And she wasn't acting like this when she screwed Liam." She said, entering to the car.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁.
The front door slammed shut behind them, the heavy lock clicking.
Noel took off his jacket, throwing it onto the floor, his chest with pent-up rage and pure panic. He couldn't take it anymore. The stares, the whispers, the way you just snapped in front of everyone.
"What the hell was wrong with you back there tonight?!" Noel snapped, voice echoing off the walls. "Why can't you just be her?!"
You stood there under the dim hallway light, completely unfazed by his shouting. While any normal person would look defensive or angry, your eyes flooded with heavy tears.
Before he could take another step away, you hugged him, burying your face against his chest, clutching onto him so tightly he couldn't move.
"I can be her! I— I can be anything you want, Noel!" she sobbed, your voice cracking with frantic intensity. "DON'T PUSH ME AWAY! I can change. I'll be whatever you want me to be!"
"Let go of me. Bloody hell, (name), couples need space!" The second Noel said that, you started crying even worse.
"NO! No, listen to me!" you cried out, pulling back just enough to stare straight up into his eyes, your face soaked in tears. "I can be her!"
"Just be her... be normal!"
"I’ll be anything you want me to be..." she cried out.
"No, don't say that..." Noel covered his face, exhausted.
"I CAN! I can... I—" She fell on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.
"You are not listening...." Noel crouched to her height, he was almost getting emotional. "She wouldn't say that..."
"I just want you to act like (name)!"
"I’ll be her! Let me be her, please!"
"Well, you stopped acting like her!"
"I CAN BE HER!" she yelled to his face, desperately for his love. "S—shit, sorry Nono... I didn't mean... I'm sorry, I'm sorrry!"
She hugged Noel's knees, crying; he was standing up, tears fell down Noel's cheeks. Would she ever come back?
potatoes!
my BROTHER lover?
Noel Gallagher is a v slutty man, but definitely the SLUTTIEST thing he ever did was wearing this adidas jacket with nothing underneath
Did we ever talk about Noel choosing David as his confirmation name. As in David vs Goliath. I think it's so fitting actually. Also Liam choosing Paul - I really don't think he was into the Beatles at that age but getting John Paul like that...
