Are you someone who has that itch in your brain that tells you to write, but you don't know exactly what to write? And for some reason you aren't looking up writing prompts or anything else to get motivation?
Well, fret not! I have ideas. I'm only putting three down, though, because this post would last forever if I wrote more. Also I'll probably have to tune this up a bit later so it'd be inconvenient if I made it 100 pages long.
Swap AUs.
You know what they are.. probably. I don't need to explain. If you don't know, Google it.
Now, Swap AUs are very interesting if you're bored and can't think of other AU swaps because Swap AUs are up to interpretation. It's swapping characters around, but there's no rules on who's swapped! You don't need to practically put their skin onto another character in order to swap them! You can just change what state a character is in and write around that! Or, don't even write around! Keep their personality and quirks but put them in a completely different role!
(for example: I have an Hazbin Hotel AU where nothing changes but during Episode 6 where Charlie and Vaggi are still petty-fighting, Vox gets the idea that.. wait, why does he need Lucifer specifically to power up his weapon? After thinking about Lilith so much, he thinks he might've struck gold! A combination between a Seraphim and a human. Without Lucifer's limits, yet too STUPID to abuse the lack of them. Hah!
What could be a better power source... Than the princess of hell? And, Al only said not to lay a HAND on Charlie.
So if he doesn't, he's probably fine, and to think Al said Vox was nothing without his team! Heh.)
Basically it's a "swap AU" in the sense Charlie and Lucifer are swapped as weapons, without personality changes.
Or, you can make an In Stars and Time AU where Bonnie is in the time loops inspired off another AU with a similar concept and then proceed to never share it or the fics you've made from being nervous like I've done! If you need another example.
2. Listen to music.
You may wonder what I mean by "listen to music" but. Ok, hear me out. Put on some Kikuo music with English sub or no (or anything else), and write out the basic outline of whatever ideas you got from it. You get an idea for an AU where a main character is evil with all their powers still there while listening to "Red Riding Hood's Wolf"? Write out your ideas.
Got an idea for an AU where one of your characters went completely manic after being in a time loop longer than in Canon after listening to "Marvin's Giddy Seizures"? Write out every idea you have for that hypothetical AU and choose one or more parts to write out as little drabbles or maybe more. In fact, you can even try brainstorming a full fic!
Music can help create moods for your AU and decide how you will write it, so just jam to music and write down all your silly ideas.
Decide to bring back a snarky loser bunny who's main color is purple via an collapsing trial created by their own mind with the only help being personas created by their own mind, after listening to Desert Theater by Kikuo? Write that down, write that down!!
3. "Rewrite"s.
Basically. Have you ever had a scene or part that bothered you in a cartoon, movie, or other fiction? Ones where you wanted to go a different way to such an extent you could write out a little script in your head? Or, a scene or part that made you think "what if something happened differently" to such an extent you could write out a script in your head?
Well. Go write that little script out. You don't need to rewrite the whole episode, it can be only certain scenes. Like, if you wanted to write a scene of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Season 2 but with the idea an arc was followed up on for more than the first two episodes? (I'm not spoiling what happens in that. MGADD has too small of a fandom.) Try either making a draft or outline with that spark of inspiration.
This can apply to anything, too! It doesn't have to be a "fix-it", it can just be a what-if! Hence why I put rewrite in quotation marks.
