Chapter 2, friends!

So here’s a thing

Because I feel bad about ignoring the discord chat for so long. I’m busy and I’m sorry. Here’s a drabble for your feels.

“You can stop grinning any day now, Your Majesty.”

Steve’s grin, if anything, gets bigger as he pushes his way into Billy’s space and says, “I can’t help it. I don’t think I’ll ever stop.” He wraps his arms around Billy and rocks them together in some parody of a dance.

Billy rolls his eyes because his face is smushed into Steve’s shoulder so he knows Steve can’t see and says, “You’re such a sap.”

And Steve says, “Well, I love you.”

Like it’s just that easy. That simple. Billy pulls back and looks at him.

Billy knows that’s just the kind of guy Steve is. He falls fast and he falls hard. He probably can’t help it.

But Billy can only stare. The words echo through is mind, repeating themselves on a loop until they don’t even sound like a real language anymore.

I love you I love you I love you I love you  I love you

What the hell did he do to deserve that? Billy knows he’s probably gaping like a damned fish but hell. He’s not fucking worthy of that. Billy knows exactly what he is and it sure as hell isn’t something people love.

The words hang there between the two of them, suspended. He can see Steve’s face shift from teasing to worried to just a little bit heartbroken like it’s all happening in slow motion before Steve looks down and reels Billy back in like he hasn’t even noticed Billy’s silence. And he can’t see Steve’s expression anymore but he can practically feel the defeat in his body. And he still can’t make the words come out.

They stand there together for what feels like eternity, Steve’s shoulders slumped, but still holding Billy gently, and Billy tense as a frightened dog, hands just barely settled on Steve’s waist like if he holds him too tight he’ll break.

After a while Steve starts to pull away and Billy can’t help the wounded sound that crawls out of his throat or how his hands clench in Steve’s shirt or the way his body shoves itself back into the cradle of Steve’s warmth. He can’t.

Steve curls himself around Billy and hold him just a little tighter than he had before. And Billy still can’t say it, but he thinks Steve knows.

But thank you so much! Sorry for the wait, but I'm not actually on my tumblr much these days. I just... appear from time to time.... and then vanish for a few months. It's my thing.

Chapter 10 isn't written yet, so it may not come out exactly that way, but it will be a very soft and sweet malex scene regardless.

I'm typing up chapter 8 literally right now. I really really hope I'll finish before the premier, but RL got to me more than I'd anticipated so I don't know if that's a realistic goal at this point. Ah, well.
