Honestly Tom Holland and Finn Wolfhard have some of the cringiest fans I’ve ever seen -- Finn especially. My sister told me a story today about how Tom got harassed at a convention recently and I was so FRUSTRATED. yall i want to say something because ive been seeing a lot of people talking shit about coco and saying it looks too much like the book of life and i want yall to know something

the book of life, as far as mexican representation goes, fucking sucks

the book of life centers around three characters --- manolo, joaquin and maria (all of these are particularly spanish names by the way, not mexican names) manolo and joaquin are both toreros/matadores (again, spanish, not mexican) the only main mexican cast members are diego luna and kate del castillo, and the rest of the cast is decidedly NOT mexican (channing tatum and zoe saldana. not even spanish por un demonio. and yes, there are many other mexican people in the cast, but not doing main roles. i mean??? seriously???? CHANNING TATUM?????) they did dia de muertos wrong, they did la muerte wrong (who is not even called la muerte, mind you, she is called catrina), they did xibalba wrong (XIBALBA IS NOT EVEN A PERSON ITS A PLACE IM SO ANGRY), and they did the entirety of mexican culture wrong. like i bet yall they didnt even have a research team, just a bunch of white people in a room being like “we know plenty about dia de muertos right guys????” and also coco was in production LOOOOONG before the book of life but that’s for a different post

however, in just a two minute teaser, i can already tell just how much BETTER pixar is doing (and will be doing) with coco

the cempazuchitl petals, the xoloescuincle, miguel’s little accent, la catrina looking so much similar to the original catrina by jose guadalupe posada and not this bitch, the cemetery, the altar miguel is setting up at the beginning of the trailer, the FUCKING TV AND HOW IT SOUNDS (THE SOUND!!!!!!!! YALL DONT GET IT BUT ITS SUCH A MEXICAN THING I GASPED WHEN I WATCHED THE TRAILER AND THE TV TURNED ON AND ERNESTO STARTED TALKING!!!!!! THE FUCKING!!!!! PEDRO INFANTE VIBES!!!!!!!!! THE BACKGROUND MUSIC I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YALL HOW MUCH FUCKING RESEARCH MUST HAVE GONE INTO THAT FUCKING TV) and just. everything??? everything

representation is so important you guys. please stop bashing on coco and LISTEN to people who know what they’re talking about. mexican holidays and mexican culture in general is SO complicated and i dont know if there are any mexicans out there who will read this post, but fuck if we deserve this movie. UNDERSTAND THIS before you compare it to the book of life
