New ASOIAF OC Introductions - House Umbrapis

Okay so this has devolved very very quickly, what started as a separate intro post of my new Game of Thrones ocs vs my other upcoming post of general different fandom ocs turned into a whole original house so. Here's those guys first, separated by era but don't worry even those that don't have shows have a couple castings for some reason (the reason being I went insane) there will for sure be others later down the line bc I have a lot of faces saved for this and some spouses but these are the main/starting people. I will also probably make a lore post for the House itself bc I have a lot (tagging @randomestfandoms-ocs @ginevrastilinski-ocs @rose-of-oz bc got moots and maddie and greta have been listening to me ramble about them for a bit now)

Game of Thrones

Connas Umbrapis (Francois Arnaud FC), Sansa Stark ship. Second son of Lord Umbrapis, his older brother died during Robert’s Rebellion and to keep Lord Umbrapis’ brother in line since he was against Robert, Connas was taken as a ward to the Vale at six. However, Jon Arryn with his duties as Hand of the King could not have him for much longer so when he was ten he was sent to Winterfell to be Ned Stark’s new ward. So he lived there, on the outside of the Starks, bonding more with Theon as the wards of the North, and missing his mother every day after her death. But he still enjoyed parts of the North, except for when King Robert arrived to make Ned the new Hand. So Connas was left in the North.

Meralith Umbrapis (Deva Cassel FC), Jon Snow ship. The youngest child of Lord Umbrapis and his first wife, she remembers her mother dying. She doesn’t truly remember much of her older brother, all she knows is growing up in the Hivelands and when her father remarried, knowing she’ll help with her new siblings when they are born. But things change when Margaery Tyrell is aiming to be Queen. Meralith, due to her family’s connection to the Tyrell’s, gets brought to King’s Landing in the hopes of finding a husband and as a lady companion for Margaery.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Astris Umbrapis (Hannah Dodd FC), Tyrell OC ship. The oldest of the three siblings, Astris knows she’s not going to rule her family. Even though she wants to, even though she’s more qualified than either of her brothers. No, Astris’ job was to find a good husband and run that household like any good noble woman. So visiting for the tourney at Ashford Meadow was meant for a chance at finding a good match while her brother competed, or at least some time with their relative.

Maxir Umbrapis (Daniel Sharman FC), Celesse Dayne ship. The second born and heir of House Umbrapis, except he had always been aware that his older sister wanted it. But for as much as he loves her and supports her, he also feels he could never change their father’s mind on the heir. So the three travel to Ashford Meadow for the tourney, Maxir looking forward to some time away and watching his brother compete. Yet when he meets Celesse of House Dayne, he feels that he may have found a new purpose to be here.

Braeden Umbrapis (Hugh Dancy FC), Ser Duncan ship. Braeden was the youngest of the three Umbrapis kids. He wasn’t the least bit interested in politics or rule, he preferred poetry and art and the occasional tourney. So he was excited to try his hand at Ashford, he was excited to travel with his siblings and just meet different people or catch up with their friends across the lands. He was not expecting to meet a hedge knight that sort of knew their father, or for that hedge knight to quickly get his affection

Kierat Umbrapis (Matteo Martari FC), Stark OC ship. Kierat was not fully embraced in the Umbrapis family, the grandson of one of Aegon IV’s “Great Bastards”, he was only born legitimized due to his grandfather dying shortly before he was born. But that’s been largely okay with him, he gets the benefits of being from a good family, being the grandson of a king at that, and not any of the large responsibilities of running his house. He has his own small castle in the Hivelands but he truly spends most time traveling. Which is why he accepted the invitation to Ashford Meadow, just a benefit to see his cousin Maekar and second cousins Astris/Maxir/Braeden.

Celesse Dayne (Simone Ashley FC), Maxir Umbrapis ship. Celesse truly enjoyed her family, she loved Dorne, she loved a lot of her life. A family that let her explore any pursuits she wished, that encouraged her for more than just “domestic pursuits”, their support meant a lot to her. It’s what allowed her to accept the invitation to Ashford Meadow on their behalf and travel with a few knights that were competing. Her plan was to just enjoy some entertainment and perhaps scope out her own match before her parents did, and Maxir Umbrapis was certainly an intriguing option.

House of the Dragon

Kristenne Umbrapis (Sai Bennett FC), Gwayne Hightower ship. Kristenne did not care for much when it came to the Targaryens, truly. She had known to take her family role seriously, finding a good match and as much as marrying into the royal family would have been ideal, that was difficult when the heir was a woman and the young princes were certainly quite young for her. But due to her and her brother’s father always trying to get ahead they must stay close to the family. Distress due to the king’s death really makes things take a turn though, and somehow the only normal she sees is the Queen’s own brother.

👑 — how would your oc rule if they sat the iron throne? what would their small council look like?

I honestly do not know if Merilith would ever be interested in being Queen. I have thought about an au for it where she and Jon rule but I especially struggle to imagine her sole ruling lmao. She is very kind, she loves extending branches to other nobles and to smallfolk so I can see her being loved but politics ultimately aren't her thing so I can also see her being usurped ngl. But, her small council would have those close to her she knows she can trust, even if a couple are her family. I would imagine Margaery as Hand of the Queen if not Mistress of Whispers, Connas maybe as Master of Laws, Theon as Master of Ships, the others would probably be lords she grows close to that support her rule, however short it is

🛡️— how aligned are they with their house and family in terms of temperament? do they share the same goals? alternatively, do they wish they had been born into another house?

Umbrapis is a house known for loyalty, unless they need to sting. Merilith is certainly more for the loyalty aspect, and while I think her goals align with some historic members of Umbrapis (Maxir, Kristenne, Ellion perhaps), they don't quite align with some of the ones she knew personally (her father Hugar, Astris to some extent, Cason) so I think she would feel torn with that! But she has never wished to be in a different house

🐦‍⬛— does your oc have any magical abilities? do they believe in the occult or do they think it’s just stories and old tales?

Merilith is of course a seer, so yes. She does not truly realize what this ability is for a long time and does not even really believe in the occult, until she is in King's Landing and learns more and especially when she meets Jon

Of course of course!!

Astris

She had short affairs with both Daeron Targaryen and Valarr Targaryen, Daeron's was before and actively during the Ashford Meadow tourney and Valarr's was for a little bit after!

Astris tried to get her first daughter Palina to be the heir of Highgarden since she herself couldn't rule House Umbrapis but she didn't succeed with that either. Nearly divorced her damn husband over it lmao

Her nickname is Lady Pollen because of her being an Umbrapis (bee) and with how she helped expand House Tyrell (flower)!

She's very very ambitious and along with learning typical talents of ladies she also insisted her tutors teach her what she'd need to know to rule a house which helped a lot with working behind the scenes of House Tyrell

She's sooooo close to Olenna when Luthor and her marry, Olenna reminds her a lot of herself

Outlived both her brothers and also her sister by law Celesse. She also outlived her second cousin Kierat, and she was the main one out of the main branch of Umbrapis' to even be close to him so that sucked for her

As talented as she is at a lot, admittedly she is not the best at embroidery. She gets impatient with her ambitious projects

Closer to her youngest brother Braeden than her younger brother Maxir, at least when she was younger since she felt jealous that Maxir was being chosen as heir when she felt she was more suited for it, but they do get closer in adulthood especially when Maxir makes his daughter the heir!

Merilith

She doesn't share her visions and dreams with anyone until she was in King's Landing with Margaery, who is the first person she spoke to about it!

Merilith only barely remembers her brother Connas, and anything she does know about him is from asking their Septa and tutors who knew him. Her dad barely ever talks about him

She's a big reader, she didn't have tooooo many friends growing up once Connas was sent to the Vale and then Winterfell so a lot of her time was spent in the Nocturnum Keep library

Merilith also spent a lot of time in the godswood as a place for her to relax on her own, she has technically followed the Faith of the Seven but she's never been particularly religious

Very excited to be an older sister to her father and stepmother's baby, though she's also very worried about if she's good enough to help teach them

Her visions have mostly been centered around Jon, but she has also had plenty of visions about Daenerys and the White Walkers!

Cersei teaches her a lot when she's in King's Landing about the political game of Westeros, which as much as they have an interesting and not great relationship is ultimately helpful for Merilith becoming Lady of the Hivelands

She's definitely a little like. Off. but being largely separated from people your age and having visions and then falling in love with a man that was resurrected does that to a person I think

I haven't thought about Merilith/Jon & Connas/Sansa's kids tooooooo much but they exist trust (Connas & Sansa currently have 3, Merilith & Jon have 4...?), this just gave me an excuse to actually name & cast her

Name: Anaya Umbrapis

Gender: Cis Female

General Appearance: Dark hair, dark eyes, more of a gentle appearance overall but there is a little something off (this is what being the daughter of a resurrected man and a seer gets you)

Personality: Anaya is a girl with a harsh temper, especially in terms of seeing injustices. But that also means she's kind to many people, as long as she believes it is deserved. She has a strong sense of honor and duty

Special Talents: This girl is a killer archer ngl

Who they like better: Merilith

Who they take after more: I think Jon, but also tbh her aunt Arya

Personal Headcanon: Follows the Old Gods as opposed to the Faith of the Seven, which isn't really a problem as Merilith isn't super religious but it does mean she gets more use of Nocturnum Keep's godswood for religious reasons than just a place of solitude as it had been used in the past

Merilith Umbrapis is a noblewoman of House Umbrapis and is the elder daughter of Lady Annarel Massey and Lord Hugar Umbrapis. She has two brothers, Bakkar who was killed before she was born, and Connas.

Merilith was born at Nocturnum Keep, the youngest child of Lord Hugar Umbrapis, the Lord of the Hivelands, head of House Umbrapis, and his wife Lady Annarel Massey. Her eldest brother, Bakkar, was killed during the Battle of Hive in Robert's Rebellion. When she was three, her older brother Connas was taken to Eyrie as hostage and ward. She was by her mother's side when her mother died later.

Growing up with her father, she had remained close to him, trying to be an emotional anchor. Which is why she did not tell him about when her dreams began. Dreams of a man with dark hair surrounded by snow. She pushed those aside, caring for her father and learning her lessons, and knowing when her father's new wife gets pregnant that she will help take care of her younger siblings as well.

With Margaery Tyrell going to King's Landing in an attempt to wed the prince, Merilith was chosen to come with as a lady companion due to her family's remained closeness to House Tyrell after her great-great-grandaunt's marriage into the family.

Whilst in King's Landing, Merilith learned much more about the way of the world with Margaery, and to a certain extent, Queen Cersei's help. She became close to Sansa Stark as well, and got to learn stories of her brother.

Answered this one here but I will also add that as queen she would probably historically be known for her peaceful reign and as long as she's not usurped, long reign as well I imagine. Kinda like Jaehaerys

Okaaay this depends largely on who is writing the books but I can absolutely see her mostly being loved. She was a big part of Margaery's good relationship with the smallfolk in King's Landing, and the North would certainly remember her kindly with her friendship with Sansa. The Hivelands love her, even if her time as Lady of the Hivelands is always a little shadowed by both her and Jon being a little off and weird.
