Right ways for installing aluminium composite panels
As important it is to use good quality material for construction, it is even important to install it the right way. Here are some things you need to consider:
1. Flat metal composite panels, have an extremely clean finish and impressive coatings. For walling applications, these panels are usually used and fixed vertically or horizontally. For crucial applications, it is important to ensure that while installing metal composite panels that the side underlap and overlap of the panels are correctly sequenced to enable the panels to sit together without forming a gap in the joint. If we fail to do so, the panels can result in having gaps in these joints and would allow water to enter into the building unless large quantities of sealant are used.
2. Following correct installation process and sequence we can minimise the gaps and ensure robust watertight joint. Metal composite panels should be installed in columns starting at eaves and working up the slope to ridge. The adjacent panels should be installed in same way with sequence seals and fasteners.
3. Rooflights used within composite panel roof systems are produced using multiple layers to meet the prescribed regulations. The rooflight units have high density foam strips which act as spacers between layers constructions. These foam spacers provide sufficient resistance to restrict fastener from crushing the cross sectional area of rooflight during installation. Failure to ensure this will result in failure of sealing mechanism and leaks will occur.
4. Quality of detailing defines the success of metal cladding system. It is very important that all details are well designed, produced and installed. Aluminium composite panels, popularly known as ACP in India are the most common panels used for such claddings. They come in variety of colours and finishes which makes it easy to have fabrications in same colors for perfect aesthetic effect.
5. During installation phase it is important to recognise that for aluminium profiles and claddings there is a need to incorporate degree of expansion. A rule of thumb for thermal movement in aluminium is 1mm per metre of length. For dark colours this should be increased to 1.5mm per metre. If there is no proper room for expansion and contractions, the temperature variations will cause fabrications to ripple and could cause leaks; ultimately resulting in detachment of fabrications.
Keep these pointers in mind and go ahead with installing your claddings. It will surely assist you to achieve long term stable structures and results.
