A new suspect has been identified in the Madeleine McCann case by the German police

One of the most high-profile kidnapping cases in the world has been updated after 13 years since its initial report.

The Madeleine McCann case has resurfaced with critical developments after the German police has identified a new suspect – a 43 year-old German man who is currently in prison for a sex crime sentence. Due to German court privacy rules, the suspect’s name remains undisclosed.

The man has been declared to have been in the area where Madeleine was last seen in Portugal. The Police has also released photos of two vehicles, A VW camper van and a Jaguar car, believed to be linked to the new suspect.

The Metropolitan Police investigation to the case began in 2011 and has cost more than £11 million.

Det. Ch. Insp. Mark Cranwell of the Met investigation, claims the suspect frequented the Algarve area in the years 1995-2007 in his camper van. He is declared to be in the Praia de Luz area where the McCann family was staying when Madeleine disappeared.

Police states the suspect received a phone call at 7:32pm, which ended at 8:02pm before Madeleine’s disappearance between 9:10pm and 10pm that evening.

Police has appealed to the public for any details on the suspect and has also released the suspect's phone number ([phone]) and the number which dialled him ([phone]), and said any information about these numbers could be "critical". A reward of £20000 has been established if the information given leads to the conviction of the person responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance.

Over £250,000 Seized as Met Police Crack Down on Courier Fraud Gangs

The Metropolitan Police have recovered over £250,000 in cash, alongside hundreds of bank cards and mobile phones, in a sweeping operation targeting courier fraud networks across London.

So far, 18 suspects have been arrested in connection with the scams, which prey on the elderly by posing as trusted figures such as police officers or bank staff. Victims are coerced into withdrawing cash, handing over their bank cards, or even purchasing luxury items—believing they’re helping an investigation.

Victim Aged 101 Among Those Targeted

In a disturbing revelation, police reported that the oldest victim affected by these scams was 101 years old, underscoring the brutal exploitation of vulnerable individuals. According to the Met, four out of five victims of courier fraud are aged 65 and above.

‘I Thought I Was Helping the Police’

Andrew Quicke, one of the victims, shared how he was deceived by someone claiming to be a police officer investigating counterfeit currency. The caller convinced him to withdraw £5,600, promising that the notes would be checked for fraud.

"They even gave me a number that looked like 999 to verify who they were," said Quicke. "It seemed legitimate."

He was later instructed to withdraw an additional £9,000, but this time, after discussing the matter with his son, he realized it was a scam. With the police stepping in, Quicke cooperated in an undercover operation that helped lead to arrests.

Sophisticated Fraud Network Busted

As part of the wider investigation, police believe they have exposed a multi-million-pound organised crime ring, with suspects allegedly directing victims to post their bank cards to multiple London addresses.

So far, four men have been charged with fraud, and three others are facing charges for handling stolen property.

‘We’re Not Stopping Here’

Detective Superintendent Kerry Wood described courier fraud as a "devastating crime" that robs elderly victims of their savings, pensions, and security.

She added: "Our message to scammers is clear—we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will bring you to justice."

The operation is part of a coordinated effort involving the City of London Police, banks, private sector partners, and community organizations to dismantle courier fraud at its roots.
