Any of my close friends know that the last 4 years have been tough on me from a climbing perspective. I was perpetually exhausted, both physically and mentally, from work for 3 years straight, and then on a rollercoaster of unemployment and employment for this last year. While I still very much enjoy climbing, I haven’t had the drive for it that I’ve had in the past. Thankfully I have other things in my life that I take great joy in, and I’ve been focused on those, but I want to get back at least some of that deeper passion for progressing in my climbing. Having a clear goal that’s achievable in the short term, to go along with my still standing long term goals, is something that has been lacking in the last several years. While I’m not sure what that goal will be just yet, I’ll be competing in my first bouldering comp in 5 years this Friday at the Blackout Boulder Brawl, with the hope that it will spark something, or at least help get me back into some kind of grove. Above is a picture from the last time I competed at this particular event (2013 I think), as well as a shot taken from one of the blacklight parties we use to throw (2008) that were the precursors to the current Blackout comps. It's definitely come a long way, and I couldn't be happier with what it's grown into. #rockclimbing #rockgym #blacklight #metrorock #compclimbing (at MetroRock Newburyport) https://www.instagram.com/p/B33Ngu5nx9p/?igshid=6uxvfs5ngjnd
