Final Reflection

I remember seeing the mind maps our first day of class and wondering what I had gotten myself into for this semester. Developing from individual to group work, it was fun to see my group and other classmates really evolve in this environment.  Although the direction was sometimes frustratingly vague, I realize that this was a great way to bring out creativity from each of us. Being a marketing major, I am very business minded. I think this design class was fun to see that design thinking can be incorporated in every career.

Reflection

The last week of presentations has been fun to watch. A lot of groups tackled waste in really unique thoughtful ways. It was interesting to see how one group incorporated the psychological aspect to making the right decision. Another group took a really applicable approach by incentivizing recycling. It was cool to see all of these super smart ideas brought to life by peers!

Reflection

What makes a problem compelling comes from the affect it has on your life. If it is an every day, detrimental, distracting occurrence in your life- I would consider it a problem. Although it may stem from frustration, a problem can compel someone to take the next step towards a solution. Identifying the problem and its source and attending to that is potential for great things to come!

Reflection

Today our speaker, Virajita Singh, gave us some insight to her work on campus diversity. During the brainstorm, my group and I thought up many great ideas for solutions to the problem statement dealing with diversity on campus. My idea came from the basic layout of our design class. I thought that having all 1000 level lectures be set up in more of a group setting could add a dimension of diversity to campus. With most 1000 level classes having freshman in them, this would be a easy way to meet other people on campus in a safe, non-threatening setting. I know that some people are not all for the idea of group work, but using the term “group” loosely more as having people in class to lean on and collaborate with on individual work, like we did during project 1.

Reflection

This week our team got the topic for our final projects. This was exciting because our topic has to do with water filtration. Since we live so closely to our main water source (the Mississippi) it is interesting to learn about. We plan to visit the Water Bar in Minneapolis and share that experience with the class. I can see the at a lot of the topics the other groups will cover will interconnect with ours, like pollution and things... I am excited to see what comes of this final project and gain insight from the other teams.

Our first day of presentations have been super intriguing. I love to get inspired by other students and see what they have been researching/visiting and learning. I’m super into the virtual zoo because I really dislike zoos and aquariums. I hope to see some of these ideas come to life one day and change the world!

Reflection 4/24

This week my group and I packed in my little car and visited the “Water Bar” in Northeast Minneapolis. Even though its not officially open for business, we were able to talk with the owner and he explained that the Water Bar is a public project where you sample local tap waters. He says that the mission is to start a dialog around water and where your water is coming from. This was a fun experience and our group is excited to share with the class.
