Hey! It's been a while, how are you?
Pretty twisted // Maggie + Open
It seemed somehow insulting to the dead to host a carnival of all things a year after the accident. The money would go to the victims' families of course, but somehow that didn't make it any more palatable to Maggie, who had soured at the idea, but privately so. Never one to fuss or infringe on other peoples' ideas, she held her tongue about it. She hadn't been caught completely off guard when Mr. Anderson had asked her to join him on Valentine's Day, but she shot him down again, hoping eventually he might take a hint before she'd be forced to file a restraining order.
Somehow, the home ec teacher had convinced her to come help set up in the days before, and begrudgingly she'd agreed. She was so against the spectacle of it though! Eventually she said "D'you get the feeling like this is the wrong thing to be doing?" Her colleague merely gave her a quizzical look and then laughed it off. "We're not making light of the tragedy, Maggie. We're just…festively commemorating it." Maggie went back to distributing red tennis balls at one of the games and kept herself quiet thereafter.
But it still felt wrong.
She already knew she wouldn't be attending, that much she was certain of, but she was a member of the community and so (even if begrudgingly) she would do her part. She dropped one of the balls she'd been fishing out of the bucket and watched it bounce off for a minute before setting the others aside and going to retrieve it. When she got there, someone had already picked it up and was waiting to give it back to her.
[OOC note: Maggie doesn't believe in the ghost shenanigans yet, so this post is semi-restricted to the living and anyone who's been dead for over 4 years unless she doesn't KNOW they're dead.]
