MHacks 8 - Prescription Trackr
Download + More Information
And to think, I thought Hack the North was crazy. MHacks, my baby, blew them out of the water in terms of pure insanity (and amount of people, people everywhere!). I flew out the morning of October 7, arrived later that day at location in Detroit (yes, that Detroit, yes it was kinda sketchy, no I would not like to go back, yes I’m happy I got the opportunity to go), jumped on a packed bus and began this crazy weekend.Â
Prescription Trackr
Never forget your meds again. Prescription Trackr tracks the different prescriptions the user has. Including the purpose of said medication, when it needs to be taken, the doctor that prescribed it, and what it's supposed to help with. Prescription Trackr is made for Android using Microsoft’s Xamarin.
Positives
I finally get to say that I slept on the floor during a hackathon. #Veteran. Similar to HTN, Mhacks had a ton of people from everywhere and it was amazing getting to meet so many people. For example, I had a really long (2-3 hours) conversation with a guy from Madison, Wisconsin at the airport when we were flying out about internships, hackathons, our schools, etc. And if you know any CS people (or at least, stereotypical shy CS people - like me) then you know that talking to a stranger for that length of time simply doesn’t happen, but it does all the time at hackathons, including Mhacks. That’s amazing.
Negatives
I had some team drama unfortunately, which resulted in poor PT being a bit rushed to finish (I did PT in about 12 hours) and doing the project solo. I go to Hackathons to work on teams but unfortunately that doesn’t always work out, and I’d rather have a nice experience doing a solo project than have a shitty experience working on a team. Thankfully, I had made some friends at this point so I could work near them and chat even though we were working on different hacks. Also learned that I really hate flying (or at least, flying alone) so I’ll need to keep that in mind for the future. Or get some Xanax. Either or.
Conclusions
Although Mhacks has unfortunately put me a bit behind in my school work I am so insanely happy that I decided to attend. At this point Mhacks is the last hackathon on my calendar, although I believe the computer science society is running one in November and I suspect Volta will be shortly as well. I am also still waiting to hear back from a few more MLH hackathons (and my Xanax prescription so I can fly again). Currently I’m up to 8 hackathons this year, so hopefully with the ones I’m expecting to occur I’ll it double digits (reminder: I had hoped in January to attend two. Might’ve broke that goal). Finally now, pictures!
