"oh, sorry!" mia called out to them, lowering her camera from her face. "i hadn't meant to get you in the shot." that was something she'd never felt good about, taking pictures of people without their knowledge or permission. it was why her hobby photography focused more on landscapes and wildlife, architecture, and other scenes. mia had spent a couple of minutes setting up and framing her picture when the person had unsuspectingly walked right into it as she pressed the button. the shutter sound seemed to have caught their attention, she would've deleted that anyway but since they noticed the brunette said something. "i'll delete it for sure, but," a pause as mia looked at the frame in her view screen before shifting her gaze back up, "it's actually a nice picture if you want me to send it to you."

their venture out to the winery had been a hitting two birds with one stone type of thing. where they got to enjoy their day off and also taste another local vineyard to see if their selection could be added to the paloma menu. this of course was happening after they'd already been vintage shopping, another favorite activity the two seemed to share, but it felt best to put the wine tasting toward the end of their day. although tipsy shopping could've been a fun adventure, too.

"you know, we haven't talked much outside of work things lately," mia stated as they sat at a small outdoor patio table and awaited their sommelier. they'd even fallen into a bit of work chatter while shopping. "so, fill me in. lets have some girl talk. i need it." she grinned at her longtime friend. "what's been going on lately outside of the restaurant. not the fire either," mia's head shook, "i think we need a break from that, too."

with her parents out of town, taking a long weekend, they'd asked mia to stop in and water the plants, check the mail, etc. out of their children she seemed to be the most responsible and the one who'd do the favor without wanting something in exchange. it also didn't hurt that in taking the job as sous chef at the paloma a year ago she'd made sure to carve out a schedule that still left her with some work/life balance. today was a day where she wasn't due in unless daniela needed extra hands on the chance a line cook couldn't make it in for whatever reason.

there wasn't a fence between her parents property and the meyer's next door, and mia hadn't noticed the truck that was now out front. it must've appeared when she was around the other side watering her mother's desert flowers. after she'd turned off the water at the spicket where the hose was connected at the side of the house when she turned she was momentarily startled to see a large figure there. "oh my god.." hand to chest, heart racing, "sorry, i didn't notice someone else was here. off in my own little world."

it wasn't just the startle that had everything in her spinning, it was who it was standing there. "hi, nate..."
