"I know a guy in Miami who has a pet alligator. He lives on a houseboat and keeps the gator in the hold."
"His name is Elvis."
❛ I want to be what you want me to be, honey. ❜
Rat laughs, throwing his head back with a toothy grin as he slings an arm around Sonny’s shoulders. It was a gleeful laugh, one of disbelief and wonder. There wasn’t an ounce of mockery within it. When he finally settles, he’s squeezing the other’s shoulder and getting extra cozy. “Well, sweetheart, I think I’ve got a few things I could have you be. I dunno if you’d like those, but I think I’ve got a real winner picked out for you.”
He turns to face Sonny more, his spare hand flirtatiously playing with his collar. The smile never left his face as he did so, even if his voice became more hushed. “Yunno, honey bunch, I think you and I should go out. Whaddya think? You should be my date.” With that, Rat gives a gentle, accented poke to the man’s chest and giggles.
“It’s the offer of a lifetime, Jem! ”
when you don't give a damn , i get pissed .
“What the hell are you talkin’ about?”
Rat’s busy rubbing circles on his temples to try and combat his current migraine. It was exacerbated only by Sonny’s emotions, and emotional as Rat was, he could barely raise his voice in retaliation. His comeback came hoarsely, barely above a rasp. “This ‘cause I had a bit much last night? ‘Cause I’m hungover right now? I’ll tell you somethin’, Jem,” he points a finger in his direction, “I give too much of a damn.”
Giving up on trying to cure his headache, he groans and lays his head down on the table in front of him. “I ain’t the type to do this ‘cause it’s fun. I do it to try and numb the shit outta myself. I care too fuckin’ much, man, and you know it. Deep down inside you, you know it.” He blindly digs around in his jacket pocket for his box of cigarettes, but sighs in disappointment when he can’t find them.
He’s seen so much. Lost too many fellow soldiers. He’s laughed, he’s cried, he’s bled. Everything haunts him, he carries his experience with him daily.
