my mind is always crowded, overflowing with random thoughts
i can’t do this
training for long range shooting is not something that had ever really crossed his mind. even when seb had wanted to help him with it, he had sort of just shot a few bullets and then decided that nah, it wasn’t for him. mostly, it was because he always had jina as a backup in fights and well—it’s possible that he’s pushed her away from him enough as of late that she will be looking out for someone else rather than him.
either way, he’s in the shooting range since he’s pretty much done all that he can to help with the move. he’s not someone who’s super strong or anything, and his enhancement isn’t really trained to save someone from anything too big so he’s not the most useful to do much aside from help pack up his apartment. which he had done, and had struggled with parting with some paints. he had ended up dropping those off with the people in the civilian kindergarten in hopes that he could maybe retrieve them after the move.
so he’s in the shooting range, if only to try to take his mind off of literally everything that’s happening currently.
he’s so focused—on shooting badly apparently since his aim has not improved—he doesn’t hear @miaxsujin step into the area either. it’s big enough that she probably wouldn’t bother him if she decided to start shooting too, but he would rather not do poorly in front of a demon.
too late.
his bullet ricochets off the edge of the target and he makes a disgruntled noise under his breath. everyone else makes it look so easy and yet ...

RESPONSE RECORDED BELOW
it was incredibly late by the time the medics had allowed sujin to return to her dorm. it had been a long day of being poked and prodded and examined by many people she didn’t fully know. she had volunteered for it of course, and she knew it would be helping the agency and could possibly help so many people in the future, but it really took a toll on her, exhausting her mind and body. as she trudged towards the elevators, attempting to roll out the sore muscles in her neck, she noticed movement in her peripheral. she turned, attempting to identify the source, and found her reflection in the window of a darkened lab. she huffed out a laugh to herself at her misconception. she must be seriously worn out if her own reflection had alerted her like that…
wait.
through the glass, she saw it again. although most wouldn’t be able to identify anything in the stifling darkness of the lab, her eyes were especially alert, her negative energy enhancing her sight. sujin approached the glass, and attempted to focus in on the dark. she wasn’t mistaken, she saw something in the pitch black shifting, moving, as if the darkness itself was moving… searching.
her heart was thundering in her chest. had someone broken into the agency? what was someone doing searching around in a dark lab so late at night? she watched the shadow move towards the door, and she consciously backed away, preparing to run or fight, unsure at the moment of which it would be. as the door slowly slid open, she took a deep breath to steel her nerves when…
“minah?” what had her roommate been doing as a shadow in that lab?
the other girl froze. sujin could see her muscles tensing, bristling, preparing for a fight, and then she watched as it all seemed to melt from her body. “jinnie! you finished up at the labs?”
sujin nodded, trying to make herself relax the way she saw minah do moments before. “i did, i was just about to head back up but um…” she wasn’t sure how to bring it up. she didn’t want to believe her friend was doing something shifty, but it seems as if she had caught her red handed.
“oh,” the girl laughed brightly, the kind of laugh that made you want to join in on the joke, “that.” she drew closer to sujin and she tensed again, unsure if she was about to receive the fight she had feared. “you can’t tell anyone but,” her voice had dropped to a loud whisper as if letting her in on a secret in the empty hallway. “alistair asked me to check on something down here. i was supposed to be covert about it, but perhaps i didn’t do the best job at that,” she laughed again, a tinkling sound that made sujin relax a bit.
“oh, okay,” she laughed a bit awkwardly, still unsure if she believed the story. “you spooked me honestly, i thought someone had broken in or something!”
“ha! just me,” minah grinned, dropping her arm around her roommate's shoulder. “shall we head to bed? it is pretty late, huh?”
sujin agreed and they returned to their dorm together, but she barely got any sleep that night thinking about what she had witnessed. her body ached as she turned over for the thousandth time that night, the repeated groan in complaint of her bed frame at the sudden movement the only noise accompanying the cacophony in her mind.
loyalty is the trait sujin had always valued the most her entire life. her father taught her that. “you never leave one of your own behind, jin-ah,” he would say, laying a stocky hand on the top of her head. even after she was attacked when she was small, succumbing to the negative energy at only 10 years old, he had stuck beside her. he would look into her stark white eyes each night and remind her that he would always be there for her.
in this situation though, where must her loyalties lie? minah had been her roommate for nearly three years now since they were baby agents, joining meia only one day apart. they were on the same team and fought side by side through training and out in the disastrous city. but now, she wasn’t sure if she could trust her. her story was plausible enough, and she’s never done anything like this before, but she looked so suspicious as that shadow she witnessed, shifting through the darkness of that abandoned lab. what would alistair have needed in there? what would she have needed?
jinx always told the agents to report anything suspicious around the compound they might see. see something, say something, as she said. and this was a very suspicious something if she ever saw one. if minah did have devious intentions, she could destroy all of meia all over again. sujin couldn’t bear to see this agency crumple from the inside. meia took her in, trusted in her, gave her a place to stay and a way to help people.
but so did minah. she took a chance on the little demon girl and became her friend even when others hated her. if sujin reported this, would her friend get in trouble? be demerited? would she ever see her again?
but if minah was really innocent, the report wouldn’t be of any concern to the higher ups. minah would only get in trouble if she deserved it.
sujin had decided. as soon as the sun was up in the morning, she’d find jinx and let her know what she saw. meia would be safe either way and… she prayed minah would be too.
