Comparisons between The Protomen and Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Act I (2005) + Act II (2009) + Repo!TGO(2008).
• Rock operas from the early 2000's.
• Rivalry between the Doctor and an Acquaintance/old friend.
^ leads to the death of the Doctor's love interest.
^ her death was the Aquaintance's fault, but the blame was put on the Doctor.
^ the Doctor truly believes himself to be the one at fault for her death.
• The Aquaintance found a way to drastically better life in the city, and thus became a sort of leader/ruler.
^ what started as a miracle for the good of the people became a capitalist nightmare.
• There's a giant screen in the city that's always on.
• The city's residents are constantly being watched and are aware of it.
• There is a tall figure that roams the city, strikes fear into the residences and kills some of them. He has a connection with the Doctor.
• Protagonist is the child of the Doctor.
• The Doctor keeps the Protagonist safe from the world by keeping them at home - in a tower.
• Protagonist has a song where they rebel against the Doctor's wishes.
• Protagonist leaves the safety of their home to confront the Aquaintance.
And these are only the story elements. There's also the musical elements, but I don't know enough about music terms to be able to accurately speak on that just yet.
Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Protomen are two rock operas from the early 2000's, and at a surface level they seem completely different but upon a closer examination they have a surprising amount in common. The similarities run from small details (large screen watching over the city. protagonist is kept hidden away in a tower) to more complicated details, including characters and their relationships to one another (protagonist is the child of a doctor. doctor is aquaintances/old friends with the man who owns the big company. the old friend caused the death of the doctor's love interest, and the blame for the death was put on the doctor).
