Calling all artists!

Greetings M3 Artists, Poets and MCs: Hope all is well. As some of you may know, we are exhibiting M3: Remixed currently at Busboys and Poets. I wanted to know if any of you would be available next Monday to be apart of a short artist talk (about your work, the M3 theme, hip-hop) from about 6 to 6:30 ish PM? It will be at Busboys and Poets on 14th Street. Please let me know, and I am also asking local MCs and/or poets to also come in and freestyle/respond to the work. We then plan from say 6:30 to 7:00 PM for MCs, Poets to respond "lyrically" to the works and theme of the work, completing the cypher. After that some light refreshment and tie to chill/mingle until 8 PM. Any of you that attended and participated in this event when we did it at Flashpoint a few years ago, should remember it went very well, and I thank you. I really hope some of you can come and be apart of this, I will be moderating and may also invite some other guests to come and speak on the topic. If you have any MC suggestions please let me know. Even if you can't stay the entire time, that is cool, we will start promptly at 6, and keep it moving. First, lets's revisit.  M3: MC’s, Mics & Metaphors explores the creative power of the lyricism and poetry of hip-hop music through visual imagery. The curator of this exhibit, Tewodross Melchishua, created the concept for this show after years of listening to hip-hop music, and specifically the immense relativity of the MC, in his or her use of words, similes, metaphors and symbols. He says that he began to see what MCs were saying in their rhymes, and asked himself, “What if the lyrics and language of hip-hop were represented through visual art and design?" And then, M3 was birthed. The exhibit gathers a group of emerging artists from around the country, each responding to the theme of the MC (Emcee, or Master of Ceremonies) or simply a favorite hip-hop verse or song. These visual artists are working in a variety of media, including photography, mixed media, painting, fashion, design, video and animation.  And they're all incredibly dope. This Friday May 27th, the M3 Exhibit will be on display at Busboys & Poets, on 14th St through July 13th.

Presenting: ***** M3: Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal. (Tribute to Guru/DJ Premier...Gang Starr) ****** This special tribute M3 exhibit will be a tribute to the memory of the late Guru, and/or Gang Starr. The exhibit will also be on display at Busboys & Poets, and we're working on a special tribute performance/show with local artists...and maybe even a surprise guest ;) Details will soon follow.  Wanna participate? Artists are invited to submit work in the mediums of 2D/3D design, painting, illustration, digital art, film/video, animation, photography, fashion, sculpture, installation and mixed media dedicated or focused on the late and legendary hip-hop visionary Guru and/or the legendary group Gangstarr (Guru  and DJ Premier, Premo).  The show will focus on the legacy created by both of these phenomenal brothers and artists and continues the M3 tradition of creating a dialogue between image and sound. Artists will be asked to come to DC fro the opening reception, artist talk or closing ceremony which may include a special hip-hop performance an covers of Guru/Gangstarr tracks by local MCs, musicians and poets.
