Original poster for Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's BLACK NARCISSUS ('47). The Himalayan scenery was all created in the studio (with glass shots and hanging miniatures), much to the surprise of some cast and crew-members who were anticipating a location shoot in Asia.

The obsession of seeing and being seen is the center of this 1960 cult movie where voyeurism is the focus of a scary psychological thriller.
The most peculiar movie ever ? #thelifeanddeathofcolonelblimp #colonelblimp #michaelpowell starts as a war comedy and ends as an #european #tragedy (à Europe) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClnpTEQsirs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The film is the story of the depopulation of one of the isolated outer islands of Scotland as, one by one, the younger generation leaves for the greater opportunities offered by the mainland, making it harder to follow the old ways of life there.
First off, this is one of the most gorgeous looking films I've ever seen. Every frame a painting as they say. The gorgeous landscape and all its possibilities, juxtaposed with its cragged frothing dangers all building together into a perfectly scored crescendo of intimate tragedy.
All driven by a powerfully subdued performance from John Laurie, who you may remember as the doom-lipped scot from Dad's Army, but will never again after this.
A stunning classic, and incredible first feature from Micheal Powell.
