The drum setup for @theresonanceproject this past weekend. Not pictures are a pair of brass capsule 414EB’s for rooms. All going into the api with minimal snare and kick compression. Studio essentials... make sure the lighting sets a vibe, then have a couple killer vocals mics to quickly compare. For a song I was recently working on, a fet microphone was used during the verses and a tube mic for the chorus to raise the excitement factor. What do you think?! Likely overkill for 90% of productions... but why not! 🧐 And yes, I like to use 2 pop filters to help get rid of those pesky plosives. It’s Monday... which is always a good time for some Microphone History! 🧐 • This #MicMonday brought to you by a reproduction of the classic m49 tube mic by @neumann.berlin, originally made 1952. This mic was groundbreaking in that it was the first model microphone to provide a selectable polar pattern on the mics power supply - this is helpful as it can be controlled remotely and is completely variable between Omni, cardioid and Bidirectional patterns 👏🏼 • This m49 was made by my friend @cuebus. We used it during our youth orchestra recording a few weeks ago. The detail this mic captured was amazing! You can see the reproduction @telefunken_mics AC701 tube glow through the mic’s grill in the second photo. There are a couple different capsules that Neumann used in these mics (M7 and K49) - I believe Robin used a M7 capsule (correct me if I’m wrong). Anyways, it was a real treat to hear this beauty.
