In our social media, tweeting, high tech society most of us rather use the laptop than the pencil! However, nothing compares to the pencil – sounds very quirky and old school, but it’s true! So check out this ‘microscopic ‘collection of pencil sculptures by artist Ragna ReuschKlinkenberg and carpenter Dalton Ghettly. Artist Ragna ReuschKlinkenberg was commissioned by German political magazine Cicero for its advertising campaign; the artist carved the face of the world’s most important and influential politicians on the pencils – Obama, Merkel and Sarkozy in a close-up! On the other hand Ghetty, a Brazilian born, Connecticut based carpenter carefully crafts the tips of pencils into astonishing micro sculptures. These tiny works of art are a side project for the professional carpenter, who has been perfecting this art for the last 25 years.
To create these microscopic sculptures both artists use a razor blade, sewing needle, a sculpting knife, and a steady hand! However, to achieve these results one must be loaded with lots of patience to meticulously carve the graphite which can take anywhere between a few weeks to a few months!
