The first character I fell in love with: Okabe, though his outgoing bizarreness kind of threw me for a loop

The character who is my ‘baby’: MAYUUSHI PRECIOUS CINNAMON BUN TOO GOOD FOR THIS WORLD LINE, TOO PURE

The character who I do not understand: I think I kind of have a grip on everyone, though Mr Braun wasn’t quite explained enough

The character that I think the show ruined: I don’t know about ‘ruining’ but I don’t think it did a super duper lot of favours to Ruka, just because her portrayal as a trans character mostly leaned towards “trap” jokes and the overall awkwardness that she’s so cute but HAHA THAT’S REALLY A BOY HOW GAY ARE YOU FEELING RIGHT NOW BRO? Though her confession of how she felt at the end felt very real and heartbreaking, even if it got overwritten by the new timeline

The most attractive male and female character: Okabe and Kurisu. Save me from scruffy dudes and perfect ladies

The character death that was the worst for me: Mayuri’s first one, because damn, I knew something was going to go down, but it still hit pretty hard

The character that is the most like me: I think I’m somewhere between Kurisu and Mayuri, in a strange way. Mayuri’s ability to be the fluffy child of sunshine that brings people together is kind of everything I aspire to be :O

The character I think the writer(s) love:

I feel like in places they have a weird fascination with Moeka?? Despite her not getting an awful lot of development, she feels like she’s a niche interest of theirs. Otherwise, Kurisu is everyone’s bae

The character that I just want to be happy: e v e r y o n e

My four favorite characters, past or present: Okabe, Kurisu, Mayuri and Ruka, in no particular order

Other Very Important and Totes Legit Steins;Gate endgame headcanons:

Daru and his cute otaku wife are responsible parents but they're also huge dumb dorks who play Rainet together and argue about whose waifu is better

Maiyuri is simultaneously everyone's cute tiny aunty and cool big sister. She dresses up baby Suzu in cosplay

Everyone officially recognises Ruka as a girl without any silliness involved

Maiyuri of course has never seen this as a problem and has thought of her that way ever since she first mentioned it. They are BFFs and still have sleepovers all the time

Okabe and Kurisu still bicker about everything, and write their names on all their packaged food so the other doesn't eat it

One day Kurisu finds Daru bouncing his baby daughter on his knee while playing an eroge and throws the biggest hissy fit the neighbourhood has ever seen

Okabe accidentally becomes a really good cook in an attempt to keep Kurisu out of the kitchen because oh god why

tbh i don't really accept the vn as canon because Okabe can end up with Mayuri and. that just feels wrong to me. partially because i see mayuri as a lesbian but still.

Yeah I wondered if they were going to make her attachment to him a Childhood Friend Crush but I’m really glad they didn’t, because hey, you can have two characters that really care about each other without romantic love being involved!! I don’t find it hard to believe that you’d stick yourself in a time loop to save a friend, but apparently a lot of stories do, heh.

I kind of almost see her as a cute little sister figure, you know, like they’ve sort of adopted each other and have stuck together through all the emotional stuff and weirdness, and will continue to hang out. Even when they’re in their thirties they’re still going to play around and support each other and eat instant ramen and geek out (at which point she’ll probably also be making baby cosplay for tiny Suzu, but don’t let me get carried away with headcanoning)

On the note of the Steins;Gate romance I'd just like to point out that I hadn't realised until now but Fate/Zero has totally jaded me when it comes to believing that ships will come true. Two characters who clearly care about each other deeply are poised in a situation where they're never going to see each other again, the perfect time for them to smooch? Not gonna happen. You lovey dovey schmuck.

So when the smooch actually did happen (AND MORE THAN ONCE) I kind of left my body a bit

also i have to say Steins;Gate is thus far one of the very few bits of fiction i have seen where the romantic subplot really feels integrated and a big and really meaningful part of the story and just really well executed

And as well as that, a) it doesn’t drown out the friendship which is really important, and b) despite there being a large number of ladies in the cast all magnetised to one central dude, it avoids (for the most part, haha) getting haremy. I’m not sure if that’s different in the VN (in that you can end up with different girls by going down different routes, maybe?) but I really liked it.

The endgame romance is also ‘tsundere and class clown help each other mature and develop past their issues with lots and lots of banter along the way’ which is a trope I am so stupidly weak for hahaha

yep they did use American 4chan memes in the english dub of Steins;Gate and it was glorious. I'm happy you enjoyed Steins;Gate

I laughed a lot at the internet culture references, but I can’t help but feel they’re going to make the whole thing feel incredibly dated (heck, they already do, 2010 is eons ago in Internet Time, haha). All that aside, the way the dialogue weaved together was awesome and really great to listen to, and you really cared about this ragtag bunch of misfits and their time travel microwave
