Meet Marina -- a 40-something Broadway veteran making the reluctant transition from Baby June to Mama Rose as elegantly as possible. Plucky, determined and funny as hell, Marina documents the trials and tribulations of an aging ingénue in her newfangled video blog... as soon as she can figure out where the "Record" button is.
Confessions of a Desperate Actress and Terrible Babysitters
by Mary Fichter on April 10, 2014
When she’s not on Broadway in musicals like Mamma Mia! andThe Drowsy Chaperone, actress Stacia Fernandez is channeling the desperate, middle-aged, self-help seeking actress Marina Lippon. In a clever online video series called Middle (St)age, viewers can watch Marina taping her very first video blog. She’s everything you think struggling actresses (of all ages) are like – a little anxious, a little angry, and—at the end of the day—determined to land a job.
Middle (St)age is just one of many funny original series available on Stage17. Comedic actors Michael Kayne and D’Arcy Carden (of Upright Citizens Brigade) star in Terrible Babysitters. In each episode, the couple interviews a different babysitting candidate who eventually confesses too much–armed burglary, homelessness, a psychotic fear of sea horses. One wonders if they’ll ever find a match. We hope not.
Meet Marina Lippon!
Middle (st)age, a poignant comedy in which plucky, talented, and "32 on a good day with a great set of legs," Marina Lippon faces the challenge of a (gracefully) aging actress. Lippon, has decided to record a video blog documenting this liminal phase of her life for the benefit of aging ingénues everywhere with hilarious results.
Created by Broadway's Mamma Mia! veterans Jacob Pinion and Fernandez, Middle (st)age was inspired by Ms. Fernandez's own experience in the theatre over the many (many) years.
