wow there were a lot more likes than I was expecting haha. I cleaned up the sketch I had but I don't think I'll finish it so here you go.
So Kanata knew of Tetora's trips but he thought the prince was trying to see his shy fiance, not trying to spy on Chiaki. Which eventually became true in the end but Kanata wasn't aware of Tetora's initial intentions. Chiaki just happened to see them chatting to each other and thought they were princes getting to know each other. He did not even notice that they weren't wearing their usual attire.
Fast Forward to the day of the debutante ball where young heirs come to make their debut into high society. It was being hosted by Midori's kingdom this year.
Tetora was hoping to catch a glimpse of Midori stationed somewhere outside to hopefully explain to him that he was a prince along, not a messenger. Tetora doesn't get to search around much because Kanata was excited to see Chiaki, as this would be the few times they could see each other. He's both disappointed and relieved that he didn't see Midori. He wasn't sure how to explain to the other that he was really a prince all this time, and that their friendship was built on lies. Tetora prides himself to be a righteous honest guy, but wasn't ready to see Midori's face when the truth would be revealed.
Midori is half listening to Chiaki as the guard gushes over Kanata and how they'll meet here. Midori hopes that Tetora comes along as a servant to catch a glimpse of the other, before being thrown into high society. He hoped the other would still be friends with him despite the class differences. He really liked it how Tetora made him feel like a normal person, rather than someone important. If Midori could have it his way, he would have so many plushies in his room to keep him sane. But alas, as a prince that looked down upon and he had to seem like someone reliable. At least he still had Tetora's drawing hung up in his room, seeing that would always cheer up Midori.
Neither of them are aware that they would be seeing each other a lot more often now than before.
Kanata and Chiaki greet each other, as it was then Midori's and Tetora's eye met each others. They then saw the outfit they both wore, and the shiny crowns they had on each of their heads.
"Why do you have a crown on your head!?" they screamed and pointed at each other.
Kanata and Chiaki are confused as they both say, "because he's a prince....? and your fiance? Wait. Did you not know?"
It was Midori who broke the silence first and in the best that he could, he asked Tetora for a dance. The other complied and said yes. It was when they were dancing with each other they would talk about everything. How they accidentally hid their identities, why they kept up with it, and how they were happy that they were each other's fiancé. They'd dance a few more songs, mess up a few steps but didn't care, and above all they were ready to rule with each other when their coronation would come.
MidoTeto Royal Au! More info about it below I guess?
I came up with this au when I saw these cards and outfits and I just ran full speed with it.
The story here actually starts with Kanata and Chiaki. Kanata is Tetora's childhood friend and royal advisor for Tetora's Kingdom. Chiaki is the captain of the guards for Midori's Kingdom. They happen to cross paths at some point and then got into a relationship with each other despite the long distance. They would rather be waiting for months for each other's letters than not being in a relationship.
Tetora is a bit skeptical of Chiaki because he's never met guy yet, but there are only so few breaks Chiaki can get that would be long enough to visit Kanata. So Tetora was going to take things in his own hands. He was going to go travel with Shinobu (the official messenger for his family), and see Kanata's boyfriend to see what kind of guy he is. And maybe take a peek of his fiancé that was arranged for him when he was younger. Tetora has never seen his fiancé because the guy doesn't like to go out often.
While Tetora doesn't see his fiancé or Kanata's boyfriend, but he does meet a cute guard who seemed to be new to his job.
Meanwhile Midori didn't have the heart to tell Tetora that he wasn't a guard but the prince of the kingdom. At the same time though, Midori does like how Tetora treats him as a normal person than as the next heir to the throne. Midori knows he shouldn't be falling for the messenger because he has a fiancé, but Tetora's smile was contagious. If Chiki is missing his first uniform for when he worked as a guard, he doesn't even notice.
Just how long can they keep this appearance up?
I already planned out how they will find out but I don't know if I'll finish it tbh..... maybe I'll post it as a wip?
