MASAHARU FUKUYAMA AS YUKAWA MANABU Midsummer's Equation (真夏の方程式/Manatsu no Hōteishiki) Dir. Hiroshi Nishitani | 2013
Midsummer's Equation (Japan, 2013)
Facts: Directed by Hiroshi Nishitani.
Fiction: Manabu Yukawa is invited for a presentation on Submarine Mineral Resources Development in Harigaura. He stays at an inn. The next morning, Tsukahara, another guest at the inn, is found dead. Manabu becomes involved in the case.
What I didn't get: Why so many flashbacks?
What I got: A very gripping first part until the name of the killer is revealed. Then the movie just becomes one long unnecessary flashback, which is a shame as the relationship between Manabu and the little boy could have been developed.

So.
I finished reading Midsummer's Equation.
And I dare say, it's the BEST MYSTERY NOVEL I've read in a loooooooooong time?
There is suspense. Not the American style "Holy cow lots of things are happening" suspense. It's a slow-burner. Seemingly trivial things coming back later as major plot points. I do want to reread it at some point later, just to get some details clearer.
And there are feels. Lots of feels. Especially at the end. WHY ARE YOU BEST PHYSICIST AND BEST LIFE COUNSELOR AND ALL AROUND BEST PERSON YUKAWA SENSEI?
Conclusion:
I want more Galileo books. No I want more Keigo Higashino books!!! Gimme me!
