“What? No, Mike, I didn’t steal a car. I stole a cat! I just was walking by, and its owner kicked it, and I couldn’t leave it there in an abusive home! It’s so skinny, and fragile looking, and he was kind of mean and hissed at me when I picked him up, but I think he’s just not used to having people be gentle with him, so I forgive him. Um -- I’m going to get in a lot less trouble for stealing this than I am for stealing a car, right?”
“Dude, not asking you to explain -- kinda don’t wanna know, really. The less I hear your side of stuff, the less I feel like I’m in the middle. Just kinda hoping you could keep an eye on Marley, actually. She sent me some sorta weird messages yesterday, but I couldn’t reply ‘cause I promised Tina I wouldn’t, and I just figured -- you know, maybe you could give her some advice and make sure she doesn’t do something she’s gonna regret. She’s talking about some stuff with some pretty big stakes, don’t want her to ruin any more friendships this week, even if she thinks she’s doing the right thing.”
“I know I do,” Marley agreed quietly, chewing on the inside of her cheek. In the past few weeks, it felt like all the friendships she’d built up with people had crumbled completely... all except her new relationship with Mike. She didn’t know why he’d stuck by her side, after she’d ruined his friendship with Tina, made things weird with Sam as an extension of that, and then snitched on Jake and Ryder to the Uprising tip line. Marley hadn’t been a very good friend to anyone lately, but through it all, Mike had been there, reminding her things would get better, and she had no idea how to express how grateful she was for that.
Mike wasn’t her focus right now, though. They were standing at Tina’s door, taking the first tentative step towards getting back in her good graces, and Marley didn’t know what to expect when they crossed over that threshold. It could very well just be more tests and Tina looking for more reasons to push them away, but Marley refused to accept that -- if not for her sake, then for Mike’s. She knew missing his best friend was taking a toll on him, and she’d put up with whatever stupid obstacles Tina was about to throw their way if it meant she could make things better. Drawing in a deep breath, she squeezed Mike’s hand with one hand, and raised the other to press Tina’s doorbell.
"You figured you could flirt with me until someone better came along."
Narrowing eyes met Mike’s as Quinn lifted her head and flipped her blonde hair back. “That was the absolute last thing on my mind, Mike Chang. I never thought we would become anything, let alone friends. Let alone friends that have sex!” Quinn shouted back at him. He didn’t really deserve to be yelled at but he was pissing Quinn off right now and she wasn’t about to take his shit. “You’ve told me a handful of times that all we were doing was grieving. And we were doing it together and this "sad, my best friend died, I hate the world” sex we were having was nothing but that. You happen to show up to a party where my friends live and where my friends were in attendance, see me kiss some guy on a bet, and then you’re going to get holier than thou on me? Guess what, Mike? First of all, that is my job. Secondly, we were only having sex to get over our loss. So get out of my room and get out of my life. I’m not so sad anymore.“ Quinn walked over to her door and opened it, waiting for Mike to walk out before slamming it hard. She felt her whole room shake as her body threw itself onto her fluffy bed.
