Cyclist Kajsa Tylen Breaks 77 Year Old Annual Mileage Record
Since 2013, George Mathew, MD, has owned Pacific Family & Internal Medicine, where he works as a practicing internist. When he is not working, one of the favorite sports of George Mathew, MD, is cycling. A cyclist from Nottingham, United Kingdom, recently made history when she beat a 77-year-old world record for the most miles ridden in one year. At the beginning of 2016, Kajsa Tylen set out to break the world record set in 1938 by Billie Fleming, who cycled 29,604 miles in one year. Much like Fleming’s motivation, Tylen’s ride was done to inspire others to live a more active lifestyle. The cyclist says that instead of asking people to donate money to charity, she wants them to donate their sweat in the form of exercise. Though there have been a few other cyclists who have recently passed Fleming’s annual mileage record, Tylen is the only person to do so while following the strict guidelines officially set by Guinness World Records. Guidelines specify riders must use commercially available bicycles, and cannot take advantage of drafting or slipstreaming. After passing Fleming’s record, Kajsa Tylen released a YouTube video celebrating with her crew back in Nottingham.
