GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY (2022) // WAKE UP DEAD MAN (2025)
#If I got a nickel every time Rian Johnson referenced something from another media and then cast that actor in his next Knives Out film, I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened three times!
Just rewatched Glass Onion and GODDDDD why does no one talk about the notebook??? The fact that the thing that saved Helen’s life was Andi’s notebook? Her “notes for future biographers”? The fact that her legacy was shot by the man who killed her, but she got the last laugh by shielding her sister from meeting her fate? And it’s worth noting that after this scene, Helen never again pretends to be Andi, because she is well and truly dead now. Andi essentially gave her life (her notebook) to protect Helen.
Together, they got the son of a bitch.
I've seen a lot of Knives Out posts about how Marta, Helen, and Father Jud would be great friends, and they would be, but I would also hypothetically be interested in the concept of a "Benoit Blanc enemies group chat" with Cy, Miles Bron, and Ransom. Just a bunch of guys hating on this detective and scheming to take him down and get revenge. But it's a comedy because they're not good at it. They don't even like each other. Father Jud kindly and gently reminds them of Christ's mercy and implores them to turn themselves in and do what's right. Miles panics and immediately tries to run him over with his car. Cy posts it on his Youtube channel and the video gets played at the trial.
Can we talk about the fact that Rian Johnson is slowly turn the Avengers into Killers.
Who's next? Scarlet Johanson? RDJ? Maybe Chris Hemsworth!!!
Rewatched Glass Onion and tbh one thing that has always bothered me with people online discussing the film was the insistence that it wasn't the real Mona Lisa. That the way it burned showed that it was on the wrong medium, that obviously the Louvre wouldn't lend away anything but a perfect copy, let alone to an egomaniac billionaire.
And that theory ruins the theme and conclusion of the movie in my eyes.
Because it has to be the real one that was destroyed, for Miles' self-fullfilling prophecy to have meaning. For Helen's last act of revenge to be thought through. For it to mean anything. Helen can't touch him. He's got all the money in the world to lawyer up. The only one who can get him is the system. Like, idk. The entire country of France. Who will drag his ass through the mud for a) destroying one of the most famous paintings in the world with b) his untested, highly explosive and unsafe fuel source. I'd say that'd get even more media attention than 2½ murders.
Miles Bron wanted to be immortalized by being mentioned in the same sentence as the Mona Lisa, not "a copy of the Mona Lisa".
KNIVES OUT (2019) GLASS ONION (2022) WAKE UP DEAD MAN (2025) — dir. Rian Johnson
Look into the clear center of this Glass Onion… Miles Bron is an idiot.
