MOESHA 4X09: "A Class Act Christmas"
I've been watching Moesha and I gotta say that those two episodes about her little brother using drugs and going to therapy have been the best ones I've seen so far. Family therapy for black families is still a taboo concept two decades into the 21st century. For this to be addressed in the mid-nineties by a sitcom is honestly very brave. More than that is it finally forced the writers to give Miles some agency as a character and not just comic relief. They spent three entire seasons telling that child to go to his room and removing him from almost every important family discussion held in the house. It was time they answered for what they were doing to him and finding out he'd started experimenting with drugs was a realistic consequence for familial neglect. I don't know whose ideas these were and I know its years after the fact, but kudos to them for presenting these images of a black family to black audiences both then and now
