[Captain Georgiou has been invited to a formal event at a space station, and as the Shenzhou can stay docked for the night, she has invited Michael, her newly appointed first officer, along with her - short photo story below the cut, or read the full 10k fanfiction on ao3 here]

Philippa: *cracks a dumb joke*

Michael: *has to snort while she has her picture taken*

Philippa: ...sorry about that

Michael: don't worry, Captain - it's the most fun I had tonight.

Philippa: You're not enjoying yourself? I hope you didn't misunderstand my asking you to accompany me as an order...

Michael: no, don't worry! I usually would, there are actually a number of scientists in attendance I would like to speak to...

Michael: *sighs*

Michael: I just can't stay on the sidelines as much now as I used to when I was just another officer... I don't think I will have a lot of opportunities to talk to the people I actually want to speak to, and I could also do without all the cameras.

Philippa: well, I am sure the novelty will wear off, and you will be able to disappear in the masses again - it also isn't like this every time, often there are higher ranking people taking the spotlight away from you and I... for the time being, I will try to fend off the vultures.

Michael: *laughs* I'll be happy to hide in your shadow, Philippa.

[later]

*comlink beeps* Captain, there has been an incident, and we need to move the ship...

Michael: *resigned* go, Captain, I will be fine here...

Philippa: Nonsense! I was invited, and I know you aren't enjoying yourself here. You should go to the ship.

Michael: Are you certain? You trust me alone with the Shenzhou?

Philippa: it's why you are my First Officer- and I am sure that I will not regret that choice.

Michael: *over the comms* everything alright now, Captain!

Philippa: With the Shenzhou in your hands, I am absolutely certain of it.
