a small change to mim to help interactions with her!! she works in a small, shady bookstore - the kind of suspicious looking place that might be a money laundering front because you never see anyone buy anything from it.

it has a lot of new books to purchase and an assortment of used books, as well. there’s also a lot of occult stuff for decoration.

she’s been there for about three years now. you’ll probably find her at the counter reading a book and not even bothering to be productive.

mim’s aesthetic is

peaches, softness, hands, books upon books, journals, never saying what you want to say, pink lips, large eyes, spines and ribs, hugging her knees, pinks, getting better, vulnerability, collar bone, fruit, moths

mim eats like, once or twice a day and spends most of it snacking on crackers and fruit. she's a vegetarian, mostly because she's too lazy to actually cook meat, but also because she has a sensitive stomach and tends to get a stomach-ache from it.

she'll also eat bagels exactly as they are - uncooked and raw. she picks at them like some sort of weird bird lady.

if it wasn't for julie, she'd probably never eat a proper meal again.

i also imagine she picks up food a lot from her way home from work. she'll ask julie what she wants and then go grab it. it's some sort of equilvalent exchange. julie makes food and mim buys them take out.

your mom bites her lip. pretends it doesn't bother her that when she says "miriam, do not touch that", you don't hear it.

when you're little, your dad is the smartest man alive. but his signing is clumsy and slow. he never learns past first grade.

when your brother is born, you know what your parents think: please, god, let this one be normal. he is.

one fight with your brother goes wrong. he pushes you over. you cry. you cry so loud, the windows all break. after that, you feel things. you turn around when noises happen. you break down in traffic because the horns are blaring.

first you were deaf, then you were a freak.

your parents are scientists and you're their next experiment. a study of a mutant child. mother seemingly resigns. you think it's normal to have tests run. don't all children?
