How it started vs How it's going :)
So call me when it goes to shit I'll be keeping the house the way it was I won't rub your face in it I swear I won't tell anyone I don't mind being your dead end I think it's fine to never move on
"Sigrunn...is it you?"
Both of you are soaking wet and freezing, the fight with the Mohrg at the bottom of this icy pit feeling like a footnote compared to the strange concern you feel for Svend.
Despite having only known him for a short time, the fear that had struck you at the sight of him in danger once more had left you without any hesitation when you'd jumped down to save him. He'd barely roused during the fight, and it's clear that he's lost his right eye since you were parted by the mists upon entering the Gallowswood. Only a gouged wound remains, leaking a strange black ichor that refuses to cease dripping down his cheek.
His question as he reaches up to touch your face, his remaining eye half-shut with reflexive pain, makes sense to you: you've seen premonitions of your party, the specter of your grandfather Hrymr, and the head of Mimir. It's not so strange that Svend would question whether you were merely another vision, and not yourself.
"This is a good point...." You're not sure how you can prove to him that it's really you, here in the depths of the Galgvidr, and you feel a pang of regret for your prior lack of foresight. "We should have come up with a safe word. I mean, a password, or something."
Svend laughs, like he can't help it, the sound slipping out in a huff and a grin that is half grimace.
"Yeah, that's definitely you."
"Choices we make with love, justice, and hope at heart."
dnd eating my brain unfortunately 🥲
As the fires of Yule begin to burn low and the snows of Fimbulvetr fall faster outside, The Last Chance of Mímameiðr rests in the Steel Raven Inn, all piled into one room despite having rented ample space for everyone. Some taking two or three to a bed, you settle in with the specter of the Syndicate's vengeance for your midnight theft of vital maps and the Guildmaster's journal, and the rescue of an imprisoned Jotunn girl, all hanging over your heads. Trying to kindle the hope that the morning will bring escape from the thwaite of Ryger and its warmongering Jarl, the party's paladin, Signe, guards the door to your room by sleeping in front of it fully armored this night.
“Signe? Signe!” Arn and Figyn, you look up from the corpse of Mak and where Fig has thrown her bear cloak and body over Estrid to protect her, to see Lif rush through the deep snow to reach where Signe is barely standing, grabbing her arm to inspect the wound in the paladin’s chest before looking up to see the blood running down her face with a sudden gasp. “Signe,” Lif says, sounding suddenly hoarse, “Your eye.” You feel her hand on your face, Signe, the chill of the freezing temperatures making the spark of her magic feel strangely sharp as she attempts to heal your wounds.
When one of ur players' characters starts the campaign already missing an eye, and then there is An Incident with some ravens, and rolling max damage on the dice.....
