Jayce sits there, palms pressed firmly into his eye sockets, motes of light dancing across his vision, until he feels the adrenaline slowly subside. And if there is a faint tremor to his hands as he straightens up and wipes his clammy palms across his trousers, no one is around to notice. Viktor has left and Sky is… well. Sky is gone. Viktor has left and Sky is gone and Jayce is alone. (For now, he amends. Viktor will be back, Jayce is sure of it.)

Summary:

Jayce dies. In the bombed-out ruins of what had once been the council room, in Viktor’s arms, his heart stops beating. Viktor feels the exact moment Jayce slips away, pulse falling silent beneath bloodstained fingertips, and he is left all alone. There is nothing to mark Jayce’s passing. No last exhale, no twitch of the fingers, no final words. It is a perfectly unremarkable moment. For Viktor, the world ends.

In the aftermath of the attack on the council, Viktor makes the only choice he can.
