“Is… Is this a miracle?”
“Would you like to hear the one about ‘The Nickit and the Moon,’ River?”
“I thought our children had fled, out of fear, and anger. Because they were terrified of us and wanted to take some sort of petty revenge.
I was mistaken.
They were not ‘running.’ They were ‘living.’
They had simply desired what we had stubbornly denied them in all their existence. Their own life. Not one bound by rules we had placed upon them.
This crusade of ours, proved only how selfish and bitter we had become. Because of what we thought we deserved, what they had stolen from us, and the lengths we would be willing to go to take them back.
It turned us into something awful. Something I do not wish to be remembered for. Would we want our Universe to see this part of us? To know this is how they came into this world?
No. This isn’t how we wanted this story to conclude.”
“I did, what I had to. I care not for your opinion on my actions.”
“Was the cost worth it? It matters not now, I presume. What happened, happened. I bear no grudge.“
“Then why do you question us?“
“Because, that is what I do. Question things, among other hobbies, I suppose. Maybe that’s why you decided to come find me next, perhaps? Hm hm? Having your own doubts over your actions?“
“...“
“Ha hah, you needn’t be concerned. I have no intention of resisting, if my time has come, then so be it. But, I could use your own help first if you wouldn’t mind.“
“I will hear you out.“
“Nothing dangerous, my friend. Since departing for my own endeavors, i’ve grown quite fond of documenting my encounters with the unknown. I take those experiences and convert them into my own words and fabrications for others to enjoy!“
“You’re a ‘writer’ of sorts?“
“When you’ve seen the universe turn, its a shame to keep those sights to yourself, better to share them with the world beyond. Perhaps you would care to read a few of them yourself!”
“Maybe you would find my story of ‘The Slowpoke and the Liepard’ to your liking?“
“You ran from us to just.. start writing children’s books?“
“You might need them in future, how else do you plan to keep them entertained?“
“That is what you were meant for.“
“Ah, but such a solemn existence that is. One runs out of ways to express themselves in such a confining environment. Heh heh.“
“You are beginning to irk us. You wanted a favour, then let us hear it and be done with this. “
“There’s no need for such a tone. I would just like your opinion.“
“My.. opinion? What of?“
“My latest book, naturally!“
“It’s still a work in progress, so don’t judge too harshly, but I would enjoy to hear your thoughts on it.“
“It is with great restraint that I allow you this time to explain yourself. Do not test me.“
“You shouldn’t speak with such harshness in your voice, it doesn’t suit you. I prefer that friend of mine who would spend hours upon hours gushing over their Universe and the joy that awaits. What happened to them?“
“You betrayed their trust, and you still have the nerve and audacity to talk about old times?!“
“Well, if you are here to do as I suspect, may as well make whatever remains a pleasant memory.“
“You believe you have the right to ask that? After what you’ve done?”
“No. I suppose not. Yet, I still breath do I not? So a part of you must harbor some mercy.“
