Mineral scan retest and future steps
So I did a mineral scan retest last Thursday and my deficiencies cleared up. So I'm really happy about that. Some will take a while to go up, but at least they are moving in the right direction.
I am still low on vitamin D, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon and iodine. I'm also low on chromium but that's because my initial multivitamin didn't have any so I switched to one that does have chromium. Though I started taking it a month ago so it might be some time until my levels go up. So it doesn't concern me.
I took a magnesium oxide supplement but recently switched to magnesium glycinate as it is better absorbed. Magnesium helps with the conversion of vitamin D into its active form, there increasing vitamin D levels in the body. Vitamin D in return helps increase calcium and phosphorus absorption. My multivitamin has 800-1000 IU vitamin D which is nothing. They say people can benefit from 2000-5000 IU in oder to overcome deficiencies. Some even take 10000+ IU.
I have taken a supplement with 1000 IU in the past but my blood work showed that my serum vitamin D was in the normal-low range. Generally speaking, correcting vitamin D deficiencies is hard and deficiencies are so common. Unless you live on the equator and expose 90% of your skin to the Sun, you're not going to get that sun-provided benefit to raise your vitamin D levels.
I also hope my magnesium supplement can correct these deficiencies too. Low magnesium -> low vitamin D -> low phosphorus.
I'm still a bit worried about phosphorus, silicon, and iodine. High calcium can inhibit phosphorus absorption and
It will eventually work out. I'm planning on seeing a nutritionist for some tips on how to correct these deficiencies.
Hope it all works out.
