Mei-Yee let out a huff, exasperated, as she turned, double and triple checking to ensure she was driving on the correct side of the road. Only after another car sped past her did she ease her foot on the gas and speed up, confident in her place, though her knuckles were still stretched and white where she gripped the steering wheel. She couldn't help the thought that hiding out with the Golden Dragons had been less stressful than this and the ends of her mouth quirked up. It seemed like she was minutes away from crashing just before seeing her daughter. But she couldn't, being late was unacceptable. As it was, she had left an hour earlier than she needed to, just in case. And to allow time to drive cautiously.
Finally--
Mei-Yee was on the right road and that much closer to getting out of the vehicle which would surely be her doom. It was so expensive to pay for, too, should anything happen and with each passing building counting down to his, she felt relief. Wherever she took their daughter, it would be in walking distance. Parking just outside of his place, smiling as she recognised it from her undercover days, she let her head fall back and took a few deep, calming breaths.
Relief was the wrong word to use because, now that nothing stole her attention from the front door of his place, Mei Yee could feel her heart begin pounding, dancing in her chest at the thought of seeing her daughter after all this time. Grabbing the nondescript white plastic bag with various Korean pop music merchandise, a few t-shirts, some popular dramas, and two posters sticking out of the top, Mei-Yee just hoped they were still 'cool', though, admittedly, her knowledge was minimal. She mostly just wanted everything to go well and hoped the small gift would help.
Stepping out of the car, she took a moment, smoothing down her slacks and making sure everything was in place. It would not do to look sloppy, not here. Walking to the buzzer, she hesitated for a moment, fingers hovering over the small white button, drawing the courage to ring the thing. It crackled to life and she gave a small jump, surprised that it worked unlike the ones in her apartment complex. Finally, she spoke in her controlled tone usually reserved for business.
"I am here to see my daughter. It is Mei Yee--"
Whoever was on the other end would have to let her in...Bringing her thumb up, she bit down on the nail while waiting, hoping she wouldn't have to stand outside very long despite being half an hour early...
