[ Nikke spoilers for Spring 2026 event / Tracing The Stars rhythm mini game: ]
Attention Nikke fans... YOU HAVE TO PLAY "AFTERGLOW" IN THE MINI GAME!!!! 🔎✨️
HOLY SHIT IT IS SO SATISFYING HOW THE SOUND EFFECTS AND SWIPE MOVES SYNC UP TO MIMIC THE WAY THE MIRROR CONTAINER BOSS BATTLE QUICKTIME EVENT GOES!!!! ((I may or may not have already played this like 20 times in a row just milking it for the serotonin.)) That was absolute genius boss battle translation to a rhythm game.
Casual on this one is the best in terms of the impact of recalling the boss battle pacing/sounds, but Normal is also pretty rewarding to play!! Hard is a nightmare though wtf I only have two thumbs?? I wonder if it's more doable if I set my phone down and try with four fingers instead of thumbs. (Maybe that would be worse though, with all the swipe moves.)

Spoilers for NIKKE's half anniversary event STAR: ANIS
Timelapse
I'm going to talk about the artwork first to avoid spoiling people. This was the artwork with the most people in one scene that I've ever drawn, and it's as tiring as expected; it took 12 hours (based on the snapshots from the recording) in total spread over 3 days. Five different characters with five different poses, at the very least I think I'm starting to get used to drawing heads, faces, dan eyes now. I'm not too proud of Mint (the girl sitting on the desk), but I'm pretty proud of how Anis (girl drinking soda) and Prika (girl with towel on neck) turned out.
Background, as usual, remains a pain of mine. I'm pretty sure I messed up the perspective of the room but oh well. I've spent enough time on it, and the result is decent enough to pass my own standards. It is a lot more detailed than my usual background though, which I'm pretty proud of. I had to quickly adjust the height of the table in front of Anis near the end because it looked off (I still think it looked off, but oh well), and boy that was a real mess because I basically just made a new layer and painted over it.
But overall, I'm very proud of this artwork.
Now then, onto NIKKE.
Yeah, STAR: ANIS was as crushing as PRETTY STAR, 'nuff said. I'm glad that the events of PRETTY STAR had finally led Hanson to be proactive enough to go against his own father, eventually sacrificing his own identity to take up the mantle of Mustang. Can I just say that it's so relieving hearing the original ENTERTAINMENT theme rather than Mustang's [true]entertainment.
Something curious about Mustang is that I don't think the "story" he told T.T. Star about his relationship with Hanson is entirely wrong. It feels a bit as if ShiftUp is implying Mustang's actual feelings about Hanson even if it's heavily touched up. Because his interactions with Hanson does imply that underneath all of his bad traits, he still has some care for his son and wants him to finally man up just like what Hanson did (not really excusing him being a poor excuse of a father though).
Incidentally, I really like all of the Hanson car still images; there's so many variations of the same car lol. PRETTY STAR had Anis, STAR: ANIS had T.T. Star, T.T. Star + Riss, and then Mustang himself. That car is iconic.
Anyway, STAR: ANIS really hits close to home since many of the conflicts are applicable to the real world, also highlighting how easy it is for someone to become jaded about humanity if we only saw the worst of them through the internet. And having STAR: ANIS really recontextualized many of Anis's actions throughout the story and made her realization in Chapter 42 that much more worth it; that she's been focusing so much on the bad of the Ark that she failed to see the good in it. It carries some relevance with the message that the previous event GOOD WORLD poses. Overall a goated event, and even more goated thanks to Hanson (I've also come to appreciate Old Mustang's voice throughout the event, it's perfect for him).
For the artwork, I decided to pick T. T. Star and paint all of them at once. It was hard, but it was worth it. I'm proud of this artwork.
