I don't really have any Persona head canons, but I'm curious, what do you think of the "Shido is Futaba's father" theory? I actually just came across it, and a lot of people seem to agree with it. I'm skeptical, myself.
Well, it’s certainly not a theory that’s entirely out of the realm of possibility. The game establishes one, that Wakaba and Shido both knew Sojiro several years ago and could have easily met each other, two, that Shido knew of Wakaba at least well enough to compose a convincing fake suicide note, and three, that Shido has fathered at least one child and abandoned them within the canon of the game.
Additionally, the game goes into an awful lot of detail on Futaba’s family backstory without ever once mentioning her father. That leaves the roll of her biological father open to whomever a fan wants to fill it with. Considering everything listed above, I think it’s definitely possible that Shido could fit into that roll, but more importantly, it’s interesting.
To answer your question, I’m not the biggest fan of this theory myself, but I can’t deny that it makes for quite a compelling narrative. The drama and intrigue there…
Personally, though, I think the game left the roll of Futaba’s father open only to avoid any loose ends when writing Sojiro firmly into that position. And honestly, I think the evil uncle in Futaba’s social link might’ve originally been meant to be her biological father, but it was changed at some point. The “I’m her actual relative” argument he gives gains new depth if you think of him instead saying “I’m her actual father”. But maybe I’m just digging too far into things.
