Kwamis and Commands
The Mage that created the Miraculouses, Qua Mei, was very close to the kwamis. As such he was not the one that subjected the kwamis to be forced to obey commands, that came later with the creation of the Order of the Celestial Guardians. However the transformation phrases forcing a kwami to transform has always been present since the Miraculouses were first created.
The magic that forces a kwami to obey comes from Pollen's Subjection, her powers being just one of a many kwamis' abilities woven into the magic of the Miraculous. Originally Pollen's magic was used to help stabilize transformations, which were dangerous and chaotic at first. Two beings, human and kwami, merged into one form, both wills fighting for control.
It was the kwamis that decided to allow humans to take controls during transformations, as humans knew their world the best, and humans rarely got to use magic otherwise. This was when the transformation phrases were created, and from the moment they're said Pollen's magic takes control and the kwami is forced to transform, wrapping the kwami's magic around the human to enhance their abilities.
Holder and kwami share senses in this state, but it is the human that is in control until the detransformation phrase is said or the timer runs down. At this point Liiri's Freedom takes hold, liberating the kwami from the Miraculous. Milli's magic also creates an empathic for holder and kwami while transformed, allowing them to sense each others Emotions.
Beyond this though, kwamis weren't forced to obey in the beginning. Kwamis wandered the world as they pleased, choosing their holders and leaving them as they saw fit. Guardians watched over the Miracle Box and resting kwamis and provided magical aid, but did not control or rule over them.
This all changed when the Order of the Celestial Guardians was formed, who started collecting Miracle Boxes from around the world and creating tighter rules for Guardians and kwamis alike. The founder had access to an artifact called the Soul Gem (which will be important for the lore and story of this blog), and used this to alter the magic surrounding kwamis.
This is when kwamis became bound to obeying their holders and Guardians, and this was the point when kwamis could be forced into a dormant state by being renounced. The Celestial Guardians justified this saying some kwamis were too powerful to wander free, and to protect the magic from the wrong hands. Using Tyyto's powers kwamis also became unable to say names of holders unless the knowledge was known by others, and by Tuskk's powers they forgot spells and magic linked to the Miraculouses.
The Forgotten Box, the Wandering Box, the Reclaimed, the Hidden Box, the Stranded Box, the Enduring Box, the Drifting Box, and the Frozen Box are the Miracle Boxes that escaped the Celestial Guardians's grasp. But don't let the amount of boxes fool you, while the Celestial Guardians only have four Miracle Boxes they unfortunally also have the most Miraculouses in their grasp.
