So right after that, there's an interview with Sonic, which reveals some interesting lore that may have been carried wholesale to the STC? A lot of this comes from a document that IIRC, was made by SoA for licensees:

Sonic found Ovi Kintobor (Eggman when he was good) in a cave

Kintobor was working on a device to make the Chaos Emeralds (which held Mobius' evil) safe

Kintobor helped Sonic get faster and faster, implying that Sonic's speed isn't an inherent ability, but rather a skill

Kintobor invented his first pair of sneakers

The device had an error and all the evil went to Kintobor, making him Robotnik

Apparently the gray emerald serves as a proto-Master Emerald, being able to neutralize the power of the other 6 emeralds

Also, the interview had a neat 2-page spread picture of Sonic, which I've stitched together and edited a little below:

Also, I'm not sure when Sonic's love of chili dogs was introduced, but this interview states his favorite foods are burgers and normal hotdogs.
