aging in elden ring has always interested me. i've always thought it worked like... being kept in your prime or aging slower so long as you maintain your drive, ambition, or passion for a cause? like marika's words to the demigods - make of thyselves that which ye desire. be it a lord, be it a god, but should ye fail to become aught at all, ye will be forsaken

count ymir is old enough to have taught rellana sorcery, freyja met radahn in his youth, istvan is called wizened despite looking quite young, same with vargram who was one of the first tarnished to visit the roundtable, etc

idk I just think a bunch of the npcs look quite young for how old they're implied to be. compared to the skeletal aristocrats and nobles that seem to have given up and wander around without much purpose. that or it's just magic and i'm looking too far into it lmao

banished knights oleg and engvall have the same jilted star-crossed lover vibes as rogier and d and you can't convince me otherwise. i want to reuinite them like jolan and anna to get the wings of the storm ashes

since miquella's blood is used to create bewitching/charming branches it makes me think about how supercharged mohg's enchantment must've been. dude was in his whole blood stream for god knows how long

it's never really explained why miq needed mohg to access the shadow lands, is it? did he need mohg's blood to connect to the hornsent in some way? was it to taint his body with the omen curse so his soul would be denied by the erdtree, and thus free to roam around?

mohg taking his followers blood sacrifices and delivering them to miquella personally in such a way sounds pretty plausible. it'd keep him in constant contact with the charm even after miq's soul left to obtain godhood

since fromsoft are cowards and wont give us more info on them, here are a couple hcs i have about godrick and godefroy

they're twins. godrick is the older of the two and got the stronger anchor rune

at the start of the shattering, they were allied with other distant descendents and the shardbearers, and had solid claims to lordship before morgott took over. they agreed with his rule for a little while, but they eventually grew bitter and resentful, like many others, and got chased from the capital as a result

morgott would have tolerated their prescence in leyndell longterm had they renounced their claims and pledged fealty. talk about golden lineage privilege

the previous ruler of stormveil was akin to a vassal lord, and was easily ousted from his position when the two arrived. godrick became lord of stormveil soon after, building their forces with army men that fled the capital, banished knights, and exhile soldiers

godefroy began grafting first, but godrick was far more experimental. he really enjoyed pushing the bounderies, such as melding limbs together and replacing most of his original flesh. man got freaky with it REAL fast

they kept each other in check when it came to grafting and maintenence. no using your own men for their limbs! if you want to put something somewhere you cant reach, let me know and i'll do it for you! you aren't keeping those new sutures clean and they're going gangrenous, idiot!! this goes out the window when godefroy is captured, obviously

had a HUGE arguement over fighting in the first battle of leyndell. godefroy insisted they were strong enough but godrick wasn't so convinced. godefroy went, got layed out by kristoff, and was divested of his rune before being thrown in his evergaol

godrick felt guilty initially but you know he'd be all 'i TOLD you so' if they met again. godefroy would be defensive like 'well if you'd BEEN THERE maybe i wouldn't have been CAPTURED' then they'd have an old man multi-arm slap fight

kenneth haight HATES their asses. godrick moreso because of his indiscriminate hunts for grafting materials and the 'dishonorable' confrontation with malenia

speaking of malenia, during her scrap with godrick she broke his nose and gave him a busted eye that never healed right. he let her and finlay through after the fight with radahn, though, so he either learned his lesson or was honourable enough not to go for round two when she was comatose

when divested of their great runes, they can still graft, but they're a lot more limited in what they can do. they can't add a shit ton of hearts and lungs to sustain giant bodies and limbs anymore so they'd have to downgrade. i feel like the limitation would force them to get creative

they'd likely be seen as freakish by golden order standards no matter what they did, so i could see godefroy going for giant bat/misbegotten wings to freak people out so they'd leave him alone. immediately regrets it when godrick calls him an old bat

godrick would probably keep the arm thing going. he'd get parts close enough to replicate his original lanky body, plus two extra pairs of arms. he still yearns for something dragon-like, so he keeps an eye out

so if the greater will has been absent for a long time, what does this mean for the process of choosing an empyrean? has it always been the same criteria? I have so many questions that might be answered by lore ive missed but whatever.

are empyreans detected at birth? are each of them marked by different gods to be their vessels? marika and the elden ring/elden beast, ranni with the dark moon, malenia with the rot goddess, miquella with an unknown nascent or sleep god, melina (potentially) with the gloam-eyed queen, etc

does the empyrean eye act as a beacon to these gods? a mark? a blessing? kept shut to resist getting completely taken over until they succeed marika? or as ansbach said: a vessel of soaring grace.

messmer could also be an empyrean, since his left eye is closed. having his right eye replaced by a seal is interesting though. are two gods vying for control? the abyssal serpent and perhaps the fell god? or was it initially a precaution due to the sheer power of the serpent?

maybe the omen twins had the potential to be empyreans. the title never even considered due to their cursed nature. morgott's right eye is closed, and mohg's could have been too before being destroyed by his horn. makes me wonder if the formless mother starting contacting him around that time.
