Musky, for me, is kind of a earthy, woody sort of scent. It's usually a sexy smell, because it's associated with (deer) pheromones. Musty is the mouldy, damp, stale smell which usually accompanies old books.
Funny how one letter changes the meaning of a word. But neither of them is quite right yet... I'll keep looking.
So far I have an overpoweringly pungent sweet chemical smell! I'll find the right words soon!
