As his star has risen, so have his heels

When Harry Styles stepped onto the 2020 Brit Awards red carpet on 18 February, eyes quickly gravitated to his choice of footwear. Gone were the patent heeled boots that have finished his looks of late, and in their place was the confident choice of a pair of Gucci Mary-Janes.

The schoolgirl-style shoes, worn with freshly laundered white cotton socks, made for a bold move that few men in the spotlight would be brave enough to execute. But, as regular Harry style-watchers will know, there’s nary a runway trend the singer can’t conquer.

The musician’s floral suits and polka-dot ties might steal the column inches, but look down and there’s just as much to glean from Harry’s choice of shoes. As his star has risen, so have his heels. The styles — usually from Gucci, but sometimes by Roker — are a world away from the thick-tongued trainers he wore in his baby pop star days.

While the Mary-Janes and teenage trainers bookmark Harry’s journey from reality TV contestant to global megastar, the footwear evolution he has undergone has seen him navigate his way through classic Converse, well-worn Vans, lace-up desert boots and possibly even more Saint Laurent Wyatt boots than Brooklyn Beckham has in his possession.

Harry Styles Returns To The Stage In Custom Baby Pink Gucci

A heavenly ensemble for a magical performance

In a turn of events that we might have predicted, Harry Styles has returned to the stage to perform his own music and he's wearing baby pink Gucci.

Almost two weeks since releasing the first track from his second album, Harry has made his first appearance on Later... With Jools Holland performing "Lights Up" in front of a studio audience and maximising the moment with yet another stellar custom outfit from his favourite Italian house.

Taking to the microphone, Harry wore a baby pink metallic shirt unbuttoned to reveal his signature tattoos and a crucifix, completing the look with his favourite style of trousers. This time Harry's high-waisted flares came in a pastel lilac shade and were held up buy a pair of braces.

The look is reminiscent of others we've seen Harry wear of late. Following on from his Met Gala look in May this year, Harry has ditched the floral blazers and retro-inspired tailoring that he wore around the release of his first solo album (and in the latter stages of his One Direction days) and opted for more tactile fabrics and louche silhouettes.

As his stylist Harry Lambert told Miss Vogue, that look from Harry is over. “I think we've done that chapter,” he said. “We know it works. It's time to try something new and hopefully shock and inspire in a different way. I know the fans love his outfits, so hopefully they will love what’s to come."

Recently on stage with Kacey Musgraves in Nashville to perform her track "Space Cowboy", he wore a Pasodoble-worthy version of this ensemble with buttoned-up trousers and a coordinating metallic shirt.

Both this all-black look and his most recent pastel ensemble follow on neatly from the baby blue outfit seen in his "Lights Up" music video that was comprised of similar elements.

While the charts await more music from the 25-year-old, there are also plenty of fashion fans waiting to see how Harry dresses up his next musical releases, not least the album art which is still yet to be released. We're waiting...
