Small project this time made on very short notice, so not a ton of documentation. It was requested that I make something to display photos for a game for my sister’s baby shower where people would guess which baby picture was which.
To keep the look clean, I wanted to try a new (to me) form of joinery: splined miters. Splined miters keep the clean corners, but are also very strong. The process involves notching the corners where they come together so that you can glue in a ‘spline’ to bridge the joint.
Notches and splines were cut on the table saw, then trimmed on the band saw. (Need to get wheels on the band saw so I don’t have to bear hug it to move it)
Then final sanding flush on the bench sander whose belt immediately broke, so I had to get creative with a handheld belt sander clamped upside down.
And the finished joints were… not terrible!
Apparently good enough that I got a commission request from an attendee of the party. So hopefully I’ll have that done before thanksgiving.
Thanks for reading!
