I’ve gained quite a few new followers within the past several weeks, and I just wanted to send you all a big HELLO!

I finished my first week of classes!
One week down, 19 more to go!
This week in neuroscience we started dissection of the human brain, and there are a lot more structures and parts in it than I care to learn. But seeing that I have a lab practical over it in just a little over a week, memorizing all the structures and names is going to be my life next week.
We have only had three lectures for pathology so far, and they have been relatively easy. I’m surprised to see how much I still retain from HSF, and I’m happy that it’s up there, somewhere.
Overall, it was a pretty uneventful, yet stressful week. I am dealing with some personal issues at the moment that have made it difficult to focus every time I sit down in the library to study, but I am hoping with time I find my focus again.
Only one more week to WHITE COAT!
Welcome to year THREE!
This morning was my 3rd year orientation, where we learned more about professionalism and conduct in the hospital setting, our curriculum for the next year, what senior/junior partners are, and clinic.
Not going to lie, I got a little bit of anxiety during the curriculum portion because the instructors kept re-emphasizing, “What you do during this next year will determine how you perform on boards.”
Basically: DON’T SCREW UP.
I realize that this is my last year of medical courses and I am going to be learning a LOT (pathology, neurosciences, and medical microbiology). But I am also excited at the same time. I welcome the new challenges in the upcoming future.
Classes start on Monday, and I’ve got three words to say:
BRING. IT. ON.
I get to sleep in tomorrow!!
It is a lovely feeling knowing you don’t have anywhere to be the next day.
Staying up all night and sleeping all day. Hello, break, you old friend.
BACK UP YOUR WORK!
If you haven’t done it lately, here’s just a friendly reminder. A friend’s MacBook is currently out of commission for the evening because it stopped working... and we have a lab test tomorrow and a lecture test on Monday.
Do yourself a favor, friends.
Share a Coke with your “better half”
I was meeting with one of my groups on the first floor of the med school to discuss our presentation when the Dean of the medical school walked by. Having met him during a student officer meeting last December, I said hello to him as he passed by and he said hello back.
About 20 minutes later, at the end of our group meeting, the Dean and his assistant came back out and said that we looked thirsty, and handed us cold sodas and chatted with us for a bit. It was very unexpected, but very appreciated.
Moral of the story: talk to your Dean, and sometimes you’ll get free drinks.
Two weeks until the test.
Three weeks until the final.
ONE MORE MONTH OF HSF.
Only one more month until I am DONE with this hellish 6 month course.
Of course, I still have two exams, one 6 month cumulative histology lab final, and one 6 month cumulative HSF final standing in the way…
I can do this.
