weekend project in progress: taking all of the personal correspondence i’ve saved since around 2008 (around 300 pieces) and archiving them

i’m in library school but i’m more of a cataloging nerd than an archives gremlin, so this has been an interesting project! yesterday i tagged everything with its date, and today I’m adding everything to a spreadsheet with things like the date (as exact as possible), who it’s from, the occasion (e.g. birthday card, wedding invitation), if anything was included besides the letter/card, and more. later on, i’ll tag them more formally and put them in some kind of order

I had another four day weekend since Thanksgiving and Indigenous Heritage Day are paid holiday’s at the library.

I’ve spent the weekend rearranging my room to finally get natural light at my desk, and now I’ve made bubble tea. I’ve been enjoying taking time to learn how to lesson plan since I need it for one of my portfolio assignments.

I’ve picked up a new book, “The Old Drift” by Namali Sepwell, at my library before the weekend. Unfortunately I haven’t started it yet, but the reviews look promising.

Happy Pride Month!

In case you didn't know, I'm working toward a Master's in Library and Information Science, and that means researching the needs and information seeking behaviors of different communities. For this particular project, I decided to focus on the LGBTQIA2S+ and Queer community, and the problems they face when it comes to emerging, AI-based technologies like Automated Gender Recognition (AGR) and AI Gaydar.

Had a mini-review with my director yesterday. He had only positive things to say; I’m one of the most hard-working people at the library, staff members say I’m a joy to work with, etc. He said if there’s anything he can do to help with my LIS classes, whether it’s with a paper or an internship, he’d be happy to help. And he’s letting me sit in on a few meetings about bringing more film-related programs into the library. I was so happy after that meeting, it feels like everything is finally starting to come together. This morning I woke up and it hit me just how far I’ve come from the TJ Maxx warehouse and getting referred to as “special needs” by my supervisor

Almost a month into grad school and I’m really loving my fundamentals class. Even though it’s all online my professor is engaging and dynamic and makes what we’re learning interesting. This week our chapter is about censorship and banning books and we have to read the Saga series and write a short paper about whether it should have been banned or not. I’m so stoked I get to read graphic novels and write about them
