In my defense I do find far to many of the lyric and videos to be disturbingly ignorant and idiotic, so I viewed in a more free minded way.

Strip years of cultural connotations, start with the definition, apply the connotations of history and the implications of the Enlightenment, a broader culturally libertarian meaning emerges.

Relationships - the way two or more Ideas, Objects or people are connected / interact. (a relationship w/ an idea?)

taking the week

I am going to try and turn the news off for the week I have learned to live with and ignore:

the executive power grab,

a congress, scotus, and media that don’t give a damn,

bureaucracy out of control (and begged to do more),

sjw, blm, progressive left et al. ,

the lead from behind childishness

and (it makes me sick) the rolling inhuman genocidal horrors in the middle east.

What has dawned on me is the Bengazi stand down (wither it is real or imagined) sent a message to our military. When Iran took our sailors I assumed there was time for the politicians to stop the military to do what was necessary. There wasn’t that time when the Russians buzz our ship, so the just waved at them?  Was any thing done in those first minutes?

Is the posture now stand down no matter what?

To top that the military is not ready for any thing. 70% of Marine air craft can’t fly, air force use supposedly combat ready planes for parts so the planes on deployment can fly(Fox Special last week), cancellation of r&d, smallest navy in 100yrs?, cutting personal (especially junior officers) and the no pull ups necessary women in combat roles.

A US military that can’t on won’t fight? IDK?  what does that mean?

I an taking the week, I have a back log of some less newsy stuff i am going to try to get to but who knows.

Sometimes life has a peculiar harmony. Yesterday morning, Instapundit linked to a post I did in 2012 noting that women’s magazines have been one of the strongest vehicles in America for Progressive propaganda, and agreeing with Glenn Reynolds that conservatives need to get in the women’s magazine business if they want to change the culture. Yesterday afternoon, the mail brought me a copy of Teen Vogue, which apparently arrived here as a freebie after my daughter bought some online clothes. This little magazine, which is directed at America’s young women, proved to be an eye-opening read, and a reminder that Glenn Reynolds is as right now as he was in 2012.

...The basic takeaway is that Teen Vogue isn’t giving a propaganda page to women who work for the Clare Booth Luce Policy Institute, which promotes conservative women and issues that matter to them. Instead, for the benefit of America’s teenage fashionistas, it gives free advertising to endless hard Leftists, all of whom are pushing a social and political agenda on young women who think they’re getting a fashion magazine.

Our girls aren’t reading the teen fashion magazines we remember from our childhood.  Those had advice about looking pretty, making friends, having boyfriends (but making sure they still respected you), getting good grades, helping out around the house, etc.

I recognize that the world of teen magazines from the 1970s is long gone.  But why can’t conservatives fund a magazine that focuses on trendy clothes that are still modest, feminine, and flattering? Conservative girls don’t have to dress like sluts or nuns.  There’s a wonderful, charming in-between.

As they circle the drain, Western societies increasingly start to seem like parodies of real civilizations.  It’s as if, to twist Shakespeare’s famous line, all the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players in a really bad comedy that won’t get past its first season.   The latest chapter is a Finnish anti-rape video that, writes Jihad Watch’s Robert Spencer, teaches women that all they “have to do to keep from being raped is turn around, hold out their hand in a ‘halt’ gesture and say ‘Stop!’”

...I don’t mean to pick on Europe -- there are plenty of mad political movements in the world. But Europe has been the source of all major international wars for centuries. Maybe it was only the Industrial Revolution that made Europe so destructive. But its neurotic repetition compulsion goes back at least to the invention of the printing press, which made mass political movements possible.

If you look for historical patterns, you can see the signs long before mass violence breaks out again. That is to say, the cost of consuming more of one good or service is less consumption of other goods or services.

At first glance, the concept of production possibilities seems to suggest that standards of living are fixed in place or, possibly worse, must decline over time because of depreciation of the capital stock. In fact, experience tells us that this result need not be the case. New natural resources can be discovered, the labor force can increase through immigration and natural population growth, technology can advance, and the capital stock can expand. It is the last of these on which tax policy can have the most significant impact.
